DVCPRO HD in palmcorders

Spiff, I don't understand how a CMOS chip could record 5000 fps. I know that the fastest I have seen a CMOS camera capture frames is at 8fps, but I'm not sure if that is because of the buffer or the chip that is causing that, or maybey it is because of the mirror. Care to elaborate?

The frame rate has to do with the clocking speed of the chip, and the bandwidth to the chip. CMOS chips are, by merit of their construction, easily clocked. If you simply do a google search on "High speed digital video", you'll come across specialized camera companies and articles like these ones:

http://www.photron.com/cameras.cfm (up to 10000 fps)
http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000547038068/ (up to 1000000 fps)

The main limitation of these cameras is how rapidly you can store data - so the sensible way to do this is with insanely high-speed RAM buffers, recording to other media at less-than realtime rates.

If they ever put DVCPro 50 in palmcorders I doubt it would be tape more likely it will P2 but if they do put DVC50 on tape in palmcorders I want that feature in the HVX.[font=&quot]

24p makes video look like film.

'x cuse me?! Huh?!

No, it's true, we never output our commercials for major companies to film. Because they are filmed on film. Only very few are produced using video cameras. And everybody who ever tryed to get a real "film look" knows why.

No offence Barry. But 24p is not the whole deal and I am not telling any news saying that.

..i think he means that 24p is needed to make video look like film. if the color and contrast and all other givens are the same.. without 24p the video would still look like video.. with it, it looks like film.

barry knows that 24p alone does not make video look like film. i think you have to take the statement for what its intended to be, and not try to disregard it by viewing it out of context. barry owns 35mm and probably about every other type of camera you can buy.. film or video. he knows what hes saying. ..its just a case that you had misunderstood.

If you don't believe my words, just pan your cam at 24P or 30P and look how jerky that turns out. Do the same at 24i or 30i and look how smooth the movement will be reproduced. Sheer physics, no miracles, whatever marketing tries to tell you.

You're talking about 2x and 2.5x the motion samples of 24p, so of course the motion is smoother. But that's not the point.
