DVCPRO HD Codec data rate

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone knew why in my FCP browser, the data rate for my footage shot in 720p 24n is at 5.9mbps? Would shooting in 1080i get 100mbps? Is the 100mbps data rate regarding to something else? Just a newbie question, I apologize for my ignorance in advance.

thanks.

It says 5.5MB/s (MegaBYTES per second) not 5.5mb/s (megaBITS per second).

DVCProHD is an intraframe codec, so it compresses every frame equally.
DVCProHD 720P is a 60fps codec, so the full 60fps signal is 100mb/s (or roughly 12.5MB/s)
But when you shoot 24fps you are only using 40% of the signal, so the actual datarate on 720P/24 footage is 40mb/s (or roughly 5.5MB/s)

Make sense?
