Dvcpro 50 or DV?

I'm really troubled about this, since this could probably be my " big break" .

I need to shoot a comercial. I kn ow that dvcpro 50 would be my best bet for sd, since it'll be broadcasted in SD, BUT, this comercial needs lots of stock footage, that's in Beta SP and DV.

What should I do? Import all the stock footage in DV and then convert it in Media manager to dvcpro 50, and cut with my HVX dvcpro footage, or just downconvert the dvcpro 50 footage to dv to edit on a dv timeline?

My mac disks can't go fast enough for 8 bit uncompressed, and I don't have a component in source (no capture card) .

What are your suggestions?

All help is seriously appreciated. This is for a 30 second promo, and the first 14 seconds will be DVCPRO50 footage. The rest will be a mix of dv and betasp footage...

Why not just shoot in 720p 24pn and then downconvert to DVCPRO 50. Better to start off with the best image and then go from there. It might make the stock footage look bad. But it might not be the noticable. Also if its for broadcast I would say keep it in DVCPRO 50, less compression.

Drew, thanks for the quick reply!

The whole Comercial is in 4:3 aspect ratio, and I tought maybe shooting 720p would not be the best for framing, and overkill for this, since it will be footage that context wyse will only work for this comercial (and it is a one of thing- its promoting a event that happens once a year)

You think I should go dvcpro 50? That's what I'm thinking too, but will converting the DV footage in Media Manager to dvcpro 50 degrade the quality of the footage, or will it stay the same (for the stock stuff). I would like to work with all materials in the same timeline...

It shouldn't degrade the footage at all. The DVCPRO 50 stuff will look better than the DV footage. Even if the DV stuff is uprezed to DVCPRO 50 its still going to look like DV.

I remember Barry writing in one of these threads that if you're going with DVCPro50 in the end, there's really no benefit to shooting 720p and down-rezzing (except for saving P2 card space). I'd agree that DVCPro50 is the way to go --- it looks so much better than DV. Just convert everything else to the DVCPro50 codec.

Thanks, guys! I'll go dvcpro 50 Then. If the great fellow member Mochouinard permits, I'll post the results in the screen grabs section. My deadline is the 18th of may, so I'll try to post by then. Wish me luck :) !
