DVCPRO 50 and thought balloons

I am about to shoot a demo of a reality type show. I am assuming they want to go 480i 4:3 aspect ratio for that stark, hideous video look. I am also assuming that DVCPRO 50 (as aopposed to DVCPRO 25. mini DV) shot to P2 will ultimately be better to work with in FCP because of the lesser compression. Is this correct? (I would rather shoot 720 30P but they do NOT want letterboxing and do NOT want anything that looks like film...maybe these guys do wedding videos on the side, I dunno)

My other question is, how can I animate thought ballons like they do in those cheesy "Elimidate" type shows? Should I be using Live Type? Motion?
This is what the client wants. Thanks God it's only a 5 minute demo. With my luck it'll be picked up by a network and I'll spend the next 5 years of my life creating thought ballons coming out of the head of some vacuous blonde saying, "Oh...My...GAWD!!! What a dork"
It's a living I suppose.

I think the DV50 would be better for the reasons you stipulate. I believe Live Type that shipped with FCP 4.5 had a template that included a thought balloon (that template doesn't seem to be there with FCP 5). You can also easily build one in Photoshop and use LT effects to make it jiggle, gyrate, and grow.

But wait, what's that sound I hear ....

It's the sound of Sony corp execs yelling and cheering, " Go baby, go ! They're sick of film look already ! Interlaced Rulez !"

IMO - DVC pro 50 may be too smooth for the look they're wanting - ehhh ?
Think I'd rent a Sony 300 series or 500 series shooting DVCam and ask them, "Is this it ?"
I mean - show them DVCPro 50 and 25 as well and give them the option.

As far as the bubbles are concerned - then yes, I'd make up a few templates and use either Motion or After Effects - prolly Motion tho', then you could round trip from fcp relatively easily. I wouldn't use LiveType for that stuff, but that's just me.
