I'm considering buying some gear from dvcity.com

First off I think i'm gonna buy a Follow Focus + rail system.

Does anyone have any experience of their products? They are pretty cheap.

This is a complete follow focus kit for DSLR. Whip, rails, Follow focus. $435

Is there anyone that beats that price?

OR:

Shoulder rig, rails, FF, matte box, whip. All included for $889.

Isn't that what Z-acuto charges like $3k for?

dv city is a knockoff company
if you are comfortable with that, go ahead. but id rather stay with some sort of hte original maker to support them, so they can invest what i give them and develop more stuff

Aside from being knockoff's, I have the FF V2 + rod support (not rails system..I wanted specific QR plates) and it works great for my purposes. Nice thread on cinema5d.com about it too.

DVcity is selling indian goods. In this case the Proaim is a slight upgrade so some of their earlier products.

The QR plate on the unit you are looking at is not adjustable for height. If you are only using a FF the curve of the FF gear makes this irrelevant, but if you are going to use a matte box or other accessories the QR platform should probably be on a riser otherwise the lens may be at the wrong height depending on the camera and accessories.

Likewise, the indian FF I bought worked, but the gear box was a bit flimsy. After awhile there was more play than I would have liked. I believe this may be because the internal axels either weren't heavy enough or didn't go all the way through.

Later I switched to the DJ Follow Focus, which does have axels that go all the way through and the gear box is reversable (very important). Much stronger, smoother, and so far no play in the gears and only cost $100. DJ Focus sells individual lens gears so you can buy as many or as few as you want. No whip but a speed crank is coming out soon. You can get a DSLR mount too.

Philip Bloom gave it a good review too.

actucally that Dfocus minirail +FF seems to be perect for me.

I don't need a big railsystem, I just didn't knew there were alternatives.

What kind of shooting will you be doing?
How important is the build quality to you?

The rigs (hardware) will far outlast your camera, so keep that in mind when purchasing. So far, all of my redrock equipment has lasted me quite a long time (4 years or so?) and I can buy new parts for new rigs as needed.

I will do commercials and music videos. Maybe some short films aswell.

DO NOT BUY FROM DVCITY!!!!!!!

DO NOT BUY FROM DVCITY!!!!!!!

They have horrible service. It was way to bulky and heavy for my DSLR rig, so I asked to return them.
It took 2 weeks for them to tell me that I can not return the item.
They just said No! I didn't even used them. Contacted via email within 1 day upon arrival....
