I don't know how a DSR300 looks.
But I have a EX1R now and the DVCAM looks great to me (just shot a DVCAM project, edit is not finished yet). It looks much beter than a PD-170.
You can use the picture profiles to adjust the look.
Anyway, to anwser your questions:
it are avi files. You can just copy them. No rewrapping is needed. But because the media is FAT32 files are no longer than 4GB. This means longer recordings are multiple files (shot1_01, shot1_02, etc). I'm not sure yet whether this can be rewrapped or not. (I shot short shots. lol, say that 10 times
)
You can choose to shoot 4:3 or 16:9.
You can also choose interlaced or progressive.
The only way to compare is to really compare the camera's side by side. Maybe you can rent or borrow one to find out?
