DVC30 Torture Test

If anyone is interested in how the DVX's little brother, the DVC30, works in difficult lighting conditions, here's a test video I put together tonight of the Las Vegas strip.

Most of it was shot from the observation deck at Paris, which is encosed in a mesh cage with holes for lenses, so it was hard to compose shots. On the way up I was told I could not use my tripod. Bummer...

The rest was shot from the walkway outside the MGM Grand. Again, no place for a tripod.

I was impressed with the way it reacted to the weird light conditions.

Everything was shot in 16:9 with the 30p "film-like" mode on. Looking back I should have shot 60i.

Thanks! That was the shot out of the glass door on the elevator that goes to the top of a half-size replica of the Eiffel tower at the Paris Casino. If anyone goes I highly recommend it, just don't try to bring a tripod. It's also very hot and cramped up there!

I think your footage looks great!
However, it would have been even better if you just shot 60i like you said...
Also, the squeeze of 16:9 mode (which is not native on this camera) probably led to some degradation as well.
I think the DVC30 is an amazing camera...I shot my feature film 'the black Mass.' on it and the footage is stunning. It's in post-production now...

Anyways keep shooting and if you win a couple in Vegas there's a poor filmmaker in NY who could use some extra change...haha

I'd love to see some of your footage once you're done!

Unfortunately, it looks like we're heading back to Pennsylvania with less money than when we started. We could use the extra change if you have any. :)
