DV24p.net phone call : Panasonic guys?

Not to point fingers, but I just got off the phone with a rep there because I want to rent both the Canon and the Panasonic, and the guy said... QUOTE

"... because they're in such high demand. The HVX200 will be ready soon, which is probably a better camera."

I asked...

"So you said that the HVX200 is a better camera? Why?

His response...

"Because it's uncompressed HD mini-DV. There are alot of reasons that it's better."

Then he kind of had to get off the phone?

Isn't that kind of strange? I'm not jumping on either bandwagon until I rent the cameras and get the tests going... but isn't this an odd way of running business?

No offense to anyone here at all; just thought that was strange. I didn't ask which one was better, he just blurted it out.

Before this turns REALLY ugly - I think what the original post was saying was the he called DV24p.net.

He didn't call panasonic.

Therefore - the "incompetant dumbasses" work at DV24p.net - not Panasonic.

I didn't call Panasonic. I called the DV24p.net people. Thanks, Luis with the scary ass avatar.

I still think that they shouldn't start sputtering about which camera is better over the phone; especially if I didn't ask.
 
I did a internet check of dv24p.net and found it goes to a dealer, not Panasonic. The WEB Page source says, "PANASONIC HVX-200 DVX-100 DVX100B DVX100A 24P SONY HDR-FX1 & HDTV CAMERA RENTALS LOS ANGELES"

It sounds like you were talking to some bone-head sales person from this dealer and NOT Panasonic.

I meant "Are these guys PRO Panasonic?"... as in they don't like anyone else's product.

confusing title, that's my fault.
 
If they are - I don't see a problem with that.
They are a privately run business out to make money, not some sort of objective source for information.

If anything they're probably just trying to ride the HVX hype to bring in more business.
Can't blame them.

Of course, that's not excuse for passing off bad information - but it is understandable.

I suppose. Just came off as "odd" to me. I think it's because I didn't really ask him what he thought about either, just said "i want both the same day.". I guess that's what put me off.

Silly me.
 
Honestly, DV24P does enough business that they expect renters to have done their homework before they call.

You don't call Bexel and ask a rental tech "What's a better camera, the F900 or the Varicam"

That said, some of those places have a hard time finding ace people. Sounds to me like he might have just been rounding off the answer because he had a stack of work.

I didn't ask him which one is better, at all.

I said "I want to rent both cameras." That's what caught me off guard. I have no intent on asking anyone which one is better... that's why I want to RENT both of them.
 
Ah. My bad then. Sometimes you just do get a monkey on the phone.

As I understand it, they do indeed do a lot of business though, so I would imagine they have one sharp person there.
