Dv to film... then what?

I hate it when I can't figure out which section certain questions should go in... this may be a business/post question, if so feel free to move.

So say i decide I'm gonna go get a 24padvanced project transferred to film. I drop 30 grand and wolla i have a film print...

Now what?

Do i now get a telecine transfer and have it digitzed back as a 35mm film look video and send out Dvd's and dv tape copies?

Do I have a bunch of prints made for sending to festivals? How much do dupes cost?

What is the point of the transfer and how is it a benefit for me? (hypothetical question on a broad scale)

Transfers to film only "generally" occur "after" your film has been purchased.

or transfers occur if film is the only supported format of that festival...

like the Toronto International Film Fest... must be on film...

but I agree that generally it is done after it has been screened.. and you have money to do it.

Let the future distributor foot the bill. If a festival only uses film prints, submit it to another festival. You can still have it shown and bid on without footing a blowup yourself. You would be better served to use any extra funds promoting and floating your project around as much as possible. If it rocks it will get bought with or without the film-out.

This is a hypothetical question regarding "once you do a transfer then what...?"

Thanks for the input so far, I wouldn't dream of dropping that kind of cash on a film print.

But if one did... what does it do for him or her and what do they do with it once the transfer takes place.

Speaking of transfers... will I ever get to see the Dvx blown up on a big screen? Is November ever gonna get wide release, Land of Plenty?
