Would really like to have a run-and-gun, portable solution for shooting with DV Rack, and I can't see why this wouldn't work:
Set the laptop so it stays on when it's closed.
Setup the shot, then close laptop.
Use USB 2 (Serious Magic says they work fine) portable HD, which is powered by laptop.
Have a shoulder bag to hold laptop and drive.
Why not? Is it very important that I monitor the DVR data while I'm shooting?
(Of course, a tablet PC would be a very interesting solution -- but can't spend the money now.)
