DV RACK VS. MONITOR

I've been pondering the purchase of a broadcast monitor Like the PVM series.Then I check out the DV RACK...... Could the DV RACK be used for post production viewing?
I'm using Vegas 5 and I was thinking I could use external preview through DV RACK. Is this possible?

What do you guy's do when shooting outdoors in bright sun light with the laptop monitor?

Yes that would be possible. However, be aware that in its current incarnation, DV Rack's monitor is limited to about 300 lines of resolution (even when in full-screen mode). So the monitor is nice, but it's not a replacement for a good 550+ line CRT.

In bright sunlight there's no substitute for having a good shade, whether it's draping a coat over you and the monitor or getting a professional Hoodman. It makes all the difference in the world.
