DV rack Quest

I would love to use DV Rack on site but I am also interested in possibly capturing stuff I couldnt capture via firewire due to onset restrictions that I had to take on tape. Can this happen within the same dvrack enviorment. IE can dvrack capture from camera or do I have to use another program, with a possible variant codec etc etc etc :(

Re: DV rack Quest

I don't know why you'd want to capture clips off a recorded tape into DVRack...is that what you're asking?

Re: DV rack Quest

DV-Rack was designed for live recording, but sure it could very well be used to capture existing tapes. As long as you are feeding it with a firewire signal I don't see any problems using it in other ways.

Re: DV rack Quest

I tried the demo and didnt find a way to do it, I just figure keeping one way to capture stuff across the board that works simplifies life be it live of tape.

Re: DV rack Quest

DV Rack was not designed for capture from tape, and we have a few things to work out before it will be a great tool for that purpose. Most notably, DV Rack does not mask dropouts as successfully as other programs. That said, capturing from tape is as easy as hitting Play on the camera (or other DV playback device) and starting to record on DV Rack. From DV Rack's perspective, there's no difference between tape playback and live feed. Note that when you capture from tape or record while tape is rolling in the camera, the resulting clip will adopt the timecode from the tape; all other DV Rack clips have a Timecode In of 0:00:00.

Re: DV rack Quest

i have to ask, what do you mean by "I couldnt capture via firewire due to onset restrictions"

Re: DV rack Quest

ok . . . steadycam, handheld, run and gun . . . . that kind of restrictions. I have no problem when setups are nice and managable, it is when things get crazy you just would need to go for tape

Re: DV rack Quest

ok that makes sense.

it was the way you phrased it that i didn't understand.

maybe someday there could be a dv rack plug in for premiere.
