That pricing really is ridiculous. That program really isn't that complex.

Indeed it's getting close to the price of a second hand field monitor FGS.:furious3:

Right now, there's a great deal for existing 1.0 customers - Many dealers have DV Rack 1.0 with the PowerPak for $400 or even less. If you get a copy of DV Rack 1.0 and the HDV PowerPak from a dealer, the upgrade from there is $99.

Hey Karl,

The "Upgrade from DV Rack to DV Rack 2.0 HD" is listed as "Comming Soon".

So, how soon is soon, since the offer expires on 9-30-2006?

Hope it's not after the expiration date!:D

Its a double edged sword...cineform is 499. I could get the dvrack current version with HDV support for 300 + and upgrade for 99 and have the codec included. I'm really torn because my impression to using both codecs leaves me leaning toward cineform.

It's much less expensive than a FireStore, but it does everything the FireStore does and a whole lot more.

It's much less expensive than a field monitor, but it does everything a field monitor does.

It's much less expensive than a waveform monitor, yet it does everything a waveform monitor does.

It's much less expensive than a vectorscope, but it does everything a vectorscope does.

I dunno, buy it if you want, don't if you don't, but I think this is the killer application for HVX users.

Hey cine, if you are going to do multiple generation work, like compositing, CC, you might be best with a CineForm product, if only choosing one product.

I have DV Rack 2 (beta) as my capture, no P2 cards atm (started yesterday, trying to figure it all out) and will convert to CineForm Connect HD for in Vegas, unless I am doing straight cuts, based on the new DV Rack HD 2.0 doing what I think it will do.... I think I need a new laptop, I have same specs as Barry's lappy.

Noob here at this setup, so I may be wrong. Exciting times... :D

Lol, my laptop is similar to both of you guys. I just bought the marshall...I can't afford a new laptop. I agree with everything Barry said above...I need the marshall in the form of a laptop.

Agree with you Barry, plus:

The best production tool since Video Toaster in 1992!!!

Don't get anybody confused, the simple UI and the easy way it is used, hides a complex piece of software.

Congratulations:thumbsup: Serious Magic

PS: I'm DVRack user more than a year.

I have DV rack (bought it a little over a year ago) hoping that my laptop would be the solution with my old DVX. Today, I wouldn't trade my Marshall Monitor for it. I love my laptop but lugging it around wasn't the best solution (not to mention that it eats batteries quicker than the marshall). I like DV rack for some things but for $799 you can almost get (2) 4 gig P2 cards and really take advantage of the P2 revolution.

But everybody has different needs, I'm only expressing mine.

wow....I want that software...

couple of questions,
-if it's connected to a laptop can I have the footage display instead on a more accurate CRT monitor?
-is HD Rack Mac compatible?
-if I'm using a 35mm adapter can I have HD Rack it flip the footage automatcally?
-the HVX can't record "N" modes through the Firewire, correct?

ok I just answered some of my own questions

-no HD Rack is not Mac compatible. (why, I have no idea)
-yes it'll flip the image automatically

other questions
-is there the option to have the video files split up after they reach a certain size?
-is an external hard drive fast enough to dump the data onto?

I agree with you 100%...but... since it uses Product Activation, you can't just move it from one machine to another easily, so if you switch out equiptment often, it could get very expensive. I would much rather have seen a hardware dongle here, so that you could install it on more than one PC -- but only use it on one at a time... The nice thing about actual hardware (Firestore, field monitor, etc), is that you can easily move it from one laptop or PC to another without any hassle.

Really, though, for a few dollars more, one could buy a copy of Edius Broadcast, and capture with that. You could then edit right in the field... Of course, you wouldn't have the field monitor abilities, which would be very nice to have...

I'm not sure I would take a laptop with me in a run and gun situation. But a Firestore would do just fine.

I too am concerned about the upgrade... I recently bought DV Rack and HDV add-on. We were told it would be a free upgrade to HD Rack. That should be honored, regardless of whether or not $800 is a good deal... or the new upgrade price is a good deal. It is the principle of the matter.

Having been a long time customer (with frequent calls to customer support), I can only say I admire the pace with which the SM team has rolled out solid specialty product that are actually useful.

I have absolutely no concerns whatsoever regarding the pending receipt of my "free upgrade" for having purchased the HDV module several weeks back. Anyone else who did the same (and met the announced deadline) and is worrying simply doesn't know these people very well or perhaps is just a little paranoid. I would be willing to bet that those who are entitled to receive the upgrade will be getting an e-mail from SM, probably in the next few days. Take a breath . . .

Yes barry your right but your talking about intensly over priced kit in the first place, why continue the trend ?
The pricing is well off, if say they put it out at £200-£300 I and many more people would buy it, I belive they would shift more units and make more profit.
