DV Big Rails System- dvaccessory/thecinecity.com- Ebay scam anyone?

Hey Filmkid2003

I have actually some experience with those shops or their hardware.

Out of 3 items I bought I am trying to return 2 as I write this.

1. ND Filter Set
I bought for around € 80 a set of three nd filters. They arrived nicely packed with pouches to carry them around. There was no description so I don´t really know how strong they are, but I guess 0.2, 0.4, 0.8 just by looking through them.

Well first impression was good so I took them with me to Italy, where I was heavily disappointed. Why? Watch this! First I thought that my matte box wasn´t tight enough and light came in from behind to mirror itself onto the sensor or something. So I set up this little test where the whole cam-rig was under a black cloth.

Very disappointing.

2. U-Flycam
I need a handheld stabilizer, clearly. So just because it really costs little (70 dollars or so plus shipping) I decided to give the U-Flycam a try.
I will let the pictures below speak for themselves.

They show the "gimbal" with the problem of this construction and the butcher-like quality of work done there.

EDIT:
YES, if you push a little, or lay the flycam down in a normal but here very wrong way, the grip comes of completely!

I have to say though, that the rest of the flycam ist nicely built but almost impossible to balance. I got quite close after 40 minutes or so. I think that is to long... What really kills it is that you look if it´s balanced, lay it down, loose screws, change something, tighten screws, lift it up, look if it´s balanced, lay it down, loose screws, change something, tighten screws, lift it up ...

Very disappointing.

3. ProAim Follow Focus.
After building my own one from spare parts and what not for my last rig (HVX with adapter) I really opted for a machined solution this time to keep my rig small and versatile.
The ProAim comes with more lens gears than I could ever use, a whip, has a marking disk and the tooth gear is very wide so it really grips the lens gear.

There is a very little play on the know, much less than on my diy one (where I used this gearbox). When the focus wheel arrives at the end of it´s range and stops and you try to keep turning the knob there is some extra play. Although it protects the lens from overusing the focus wheel I strongly believe that this extra play comes from not so tight screws on the kno axis or the tooth gear axis (which can be adjusted btw).

So, while I am trying to give back the filters and the flycam, I definitely want to keep the follow focus.

As for the many ebay accounts for one company theory:
I thought so too until I saw two different office locations in different cities in India. So my guess is that there´re two companies and when I checked 2 weeks ago they weren´t selling the same products entirely.

Hope that helps.

Wow! Thanks for the reply, Patrick! I'm speechless after looking at that video and especially those photos! I've posted some photos I took of my DV Rail System. It clearly shows that they sent me a USED item with a lot of wear and tear...scratches, dents, gouges, worn screw holes, etc. At least the metal and plastic parts of your flycam look "new"! Haha! Its just shotty craftsmanship. Are they sending you a new one or are you getting your money back? The guy I bought from has agreed to send me a new one without me having to send the first one back because I complained about having to pay for shipping for an exchange. We'll see how "new" it is. If it doesn't look like the photo of the brand new DV Rail System on the Ebay listing then, I'm getting my money back, filing a Paypal dispute and leaving negative feedback! By the way. what rail system are you using for your DOF adapter and where did you buy it? Thanks.

Matt

Hey Matt,

a little update on my two issues (flycam & filters):

I have been refunded fully for the filters only one day after I wrote that email. I also weren´t to send the filters back, although I received another email today with instructions to send it back. A replied that I already threw them away after their first email, which I did gladly...I guess that´s just miscommunication on their side.

As for the flycam I recieved an email that a "replacement part" is on its way and I should not send the unit back. I am not sure if it is a new item or just a part to replace the bad one.

So, fast they really are in my case.

Your rail system looks really bad.

I still use my indifocus rails which I bought a year ago for a hvx200 + adapter. Now I just build everything else around it until it´s complete.

Hello

I have recently bought a flycam5000 ( flycam 5000) and I have to say it is a totally useless product. Impossible to balance it. First I thought I succeeded and then you turn it around the vertical axle 180 degrees and suddenly loses the balance (I guess this is what they call dynamic balance). So basically when you move and you turn it will be not horizontal anymore. Plus the little little screws... they had some plastic thing on at the end to be able to screw it without screw driver. 2 of them are already broken. I had to buy metal ones. Stupid me that I thought a cheap cam stabilizator can be good. Shame. I think the price shouldnt be an excuse for this. If you dont have money for porsche, you buy an opel... but you still expect it to work... I will post a video on youtube about this, showing the problems as well.
