Dumb Questions

I just got my new dvx100b, and I got some questions, of course some might sound stupid, since I am a new user. But, its only once, I promise :)

1- When I record, and transfer to pc, and using windows movie maker (until vegas arrives in mail) at the end of the video, it makes this crunk sound for some reason, what is this? is this the same "crunk" sound everyone talks about?

2- In the viewfinder, when I close the LCD screen, and try to see whats put in front of the camera, its so dark watching from the view finder, why is that? when I open the LCD screen, its much lighter, and the way it should be.

3- When I do record something, every piece of audio plays on the right speaker, why is that? is it maybe because I pushed a wrong button on the camera making every audio piece record on the right side?.

4- I've been reading alot on these boards, about settings, and shutters, and such, and I remember someone posting a link to a site that showed you what shutters are good depending on the event you want, does anyone remember this site? or what thread it was in?

I'm not much help as i just got my dvx100b as well, but that noise yer talking about for windows movie maker, i got that too, so it must be a common thing, i was worried for a minute myself. Dunno about the viewfinder question, did you accidently turn the brightness down or something? for the mic, it's a stereo mic, my guess is you need to enable both channels to get both sides. Dunno about that link but Barry's book explains it if you can get your hands on that.

Lol, that makes me feel better knowing you also have that terrible noise! lol, I think we need to make sure this is the 'clunk' noise everyone is talking about, or we've both got a problem. Does yours also come at the end?

Maybe I did turn the brightness down without knowing it, I'm gonna fool around with it again today, see what I did. I've gone in acouple of pages on Barrys book, it explains alot, but that link just showed you what settings/shutters to get on for different shootins, such as movies, weddings, a walk in the park, etc, it was pretty helpful I saved it, reformatted my pc, and lost it. :(

1- The "clunk" sound everyone talks about is when the camera is off, and the OIS makes a rattle when you tilt the cam back and forth. You're probably just hearing an audio glitch from your NLE capture. No big deal.

2- You can adjust the brightness of the viewfinder in the menu. 6,Display setup, EVF setup.

3- Check your input buttons as Cephalectomy said. Inside the LCD panel, put them both up to use the on-camera mic on both channels.

4- I don't remember. But Shutter OFF seems to work pretty well for most situations. Faster shutter speeds will catch more action but will have more strobing. Hope this helps.

no it's not the "clunk" everyone refers to. It did come at the end of the clip though. I don't think it's anything to worry about :) How are you enjoying the came so far? I love it but i almost cried when my gf accidently tripped on the cord and knocked it off the coffee table, I'm glad it wasn't a longer fall. I really need a better setup area for the sake of organization, hehe, gotta keep my gf away from it too, sweetest girl in the world, but a bit of a clutz :) hehe

So far I love this cam.

I checked the mic input, one says Input (R), and the other says (L), isn't that normal?

Also, one more thing, does anyone else notice that when moving the camera, it takes about a second or two for the camera to adjust to the lighting and background of what is put in front of it?

Are you talking about the exposure? If so, you need to switch to manual iris so your f-stop doesn't change automatically but remains constant until you alter it by turning the iris dial.

Iris changes during a shot are sometimes necessary (e.g. if you're doing a moving shot going from a bright exterior to a darker interior or vice versa, or panning from a bright sky to a shaded building), but in most situations, you'll want to keep it on manual, otherwise the exposure will keep changing during your shot, depending on what you're shooting.

Sounds like you have it set to Auto. I don't have my cam in front of me, but you can go into the menu and turn all of those off. All this stuff is in the manual.

See down at the bottom of this pic? That's where you choose which channel your audio is going to record from. If you want both on the internal mic, both switches should be up on INT.

They were both in INT. one was INT. Right, the other INT. Left.

Yes, exposure, I'm gonna try the hitting it to manual iris.

Do you have a mic? If so, try plugging it in to Input 1 and then set that CH1 select switch to Input 1 and see if you get audio on Channel 1 (left). Is this the problem that you're having? Or is it after you capture the footage that it's only playing on the right speaker. If that's the case it could be some settings in your computer.

no, no mic yet.

The problems I'm having is it records everything on one side, which is right, I've read parts of the manual, and it says to put int. left, int. right, and its been that way from the beginning, still records on right. I doubt its my pc, since I played back on the dvx and it all came from the right.

Just to eliminate all possibilities...Have you checked to see that your Left channel level isn't turned off? Probably a dumb question...but leave no stone unturned.
