Dumb questions about camera filters.

Yes, I know. Some of you will be awestruck by how idiotic this question may be. Do still-cameras and camcorders use the same filters? Meaning can you they be interchangeable? Forgive my lack of knowledge.

Thanks! One more question.. My DVX100B is coming in a few days.. any filter recommendations? What size filters should I be focusing on? Once again I apologize for my lack of knowledge.

Or you can spring some big bucks for a matte box so you will look like a filmmaker. ;-)

The big advantages are that you can change out matte box filters quicker and easier and can stack multiple filters quicker and easier than with screw-in filters. But matte boxes and 4x4 or larger filters cost major bux. Oh yeah, and the sun protection and protection from lens flares is incredible with a matte box.

Enjoy your 100B, I still have my 100A, it is my favorite camera that I have ever owned, including my old $70k Betacam and my HVX200 and HPX170. DVX is smaller, lighter, easier to use and provides awesome picture quality. Still use it for web and SD projects.

Nice. Yes, I am extremely new to anything film related. I have no education in film, so anything I will learn will be from these forums, or anything I look up. The only experience to filming that I have is from using a crappy little Sony Camcorder, and making a few shorts with those. I'm looking to improve, and I saw the DVX100B as a great camera to help, even if it was a little costly. I have saved a lot of money from work, and this camera made some-what of a dent in my cash accumulation. I appreciate the advice, I really do. I expected someone to tell me "Someone like you shouldn't deserve a camera like a dvx100b if you don't even know anything about cameras" or something along those lines.

DVX100 is probably the best non HD camcorder ever made to learn filmmaking from the ground up. Quite a few Oscar nominated and Oscar winning films were shot on the DVX100. 24P, great look and feel, high quality audio, what more do you need? You have made an excellent choice, now get out there and learn it. Make films!

One last moronic question, can you put multiple filters onto a camera? For example, a UV filter, then a Protective lens filter?
