B&H's store is closing for a bit. (Anyone whom has never been, it's a mad house, always.)

___

To the B&H Community:

We hope this note finds you and your family safe as the health crisis impacts our communities.

B&H has always been made special by people – our employees and our customers -- and the relationships we have built over 47 years. With the spread of this pandemic, we want you to know that there is no higher priority for us than the safety of our team and community.

As a result, we’ve decided to temporarily close the B&H New York City SuperStore from Monday March 16th through Saturday March 28th. Our main focus is to keep you and every member of our team feeling safe, healthy, and supported during these difficult times.

(There's more you can find on the website.)

I wonder if the camera companies/retailers will be offering price reductions on their products in order to move product? Products sitting unsold does not generate revenue for anyone.

Eventually they would if all of this would be prolonged.

On the other hand, if people can't really use the products then they won't exactly be running out to get them.

So, it really probably only affects a small percentage of their customers/business, as I’m guessing the vast majority of their business now is from on-line sales, which, at least for now, will remain operational.

But still crazy that NY is essentially closing its doors. And Chicago, too.

Come November 2020 will we see a 2nd wave after a lull during the summer, like the spanish flu? Is Isolation and social distancing really the answer, shouldn't the world be building immunity to this strain of virus, as is the UK approach under Boris Johnson? Or should we rely on modern science's ability to develop a vaccine to help build up worldwide immunity, and continue to rely on social distancing and isolation? Tough questions. But I do not think this crisis will be over in the next two months, far from it. Unfortunately COVID 19 is out of Pandora's Box and it will be hard to put back in. I do feel sorry for all the contractors and show staff from Freeman and MC2 who work these events as well as all of the laborers in Las Vegas. Many are my friends and they rely on these events and the over time hours to last out the rest of the year.

I'm no expert but I don't think so. This thing only lives by being spread by people and it only lives for a few weeks in people. It actually is killed pretty easily outside the body and doesn't stand much chance of surviving once its gone from people.

The main problem is people spread it too easily right now and lots of places didn't take it serious at first and it spread too much. Better to shut down now with a healthy population vs a forced shutdown with our medical facilities on the brink of collapse.

Vaccines are getting much closer as well. May still be months away to go through testing but this will not be a forever thing.

There will be some serious changes in the fabric of society after this outbreak.

This virus is about 10 times deadlier than the regular flu, i.e. it is bad but nowhere near as bad in mortality as Ebola or other viruses.

But what will change is the view of "is it nice to live in a big city in which you have zero chance of self sustain".

Do you want to work in a business that can just over a night be rendered useless? Like flying, event, hospitality, etc.

I work mostly now with filming sports, I thought there would be a longer "grace period" in which the leagues would still play their games, but in front of empty arenas. Turns out all they could muster here in Sweden was about 1 game (some didn't even do that, and I don't blame them). But sucks for me since I always plan for working full-time until end of March and then having it rapidly die off in April. Now I only lose a month and a half more or less of income, it sucks but really no biggie. I have the luxury of not having kids that need stuff or an apartment, etc... I can easily switch to a frugal lifestyle and enjoy the countryside, but I am soooooo a minority. All my friends in the bizz are screwed, rents that won't stop just because the world stops turning, and they don't have the fun stuff that cities are good for either now in lock-down...

I love playing sports, but filming sports and all the "they are heroes" is just m'ehhh, at the end of of the day it is grown ups chasing a ball, it really doesn't matter. I say that stuff even when things are good because, you gotta have some perspective, and that is what this virus will do, put things into perspective for more people of what is important and what isn't. A lot of people are simply in for a hard turn to find out that their financial analytics firm won't be worth anything when the Stock-market is closed/tanked. The pizza restaurant ain't worth much when the hotel goes bust and no guest comes... etc. and that is just the "simple" things to calculate they will have an impact. The more far reaching ones are companies in whatever business that don't stock much inventory and can't get new parts from the sub-contractors or suppliers... I mean, Sony might not have enough parts or demands to keep making this or that... So there is a lot of humble-pie being delivered right now to more or less all of us, because this Covid-19 is bad, but not nearly as bad as it can be...

I sure hope everything works out fine and that we in 2-4 months reach either one or a combination of: herd-immunity, vaccine or effective quarantine. So we can then be back at filming Kardashians and grown men kicking a ball.

I'm no expert

Few people are and our TVs are full of people who aren't experts spouting rubbish. I'm now ignoring all pundits and politicians while only listening to the top scientists and looking at published data.

Says who? Scientist 'think' it came from bats, but they don't know for sure. They don't fully understand it's transmission either or how long it lives outside of people. Why do you think they are disinfecting the streets?

It actually is killed pretty easily outside the body and doesn't stand much chance of surviving once its gone from people.

It has been proven to live on surfaces for several days. Similar viruses can live for months outside the body.

Agreed.

Better to shut down now with a healthy population vs a forced shutdown with our medical facilities on the brink of collapse.

That's not evidenced by what has been done successfully in places like South Korea, Hong Kong and Singapore. And who knows what will happen in Wuhan once they end martial law? Will it bounce back? It's all a question of the right measure at the right time. I have no idea if the UK have made the right call as so far they haven't published the date - that may happen later today and it might turn out the reason they haven't published it is they don't want to scare the public. Of course, it could also be due to laziness, incompetence or anything else, we'll see.

Vaccines are getting much closer as well. May still be months away to go through testing but this will not be a forever thing.

No vaccine has been produced for one of these type of viruses. No one knows if it can be. Certainly, it normally takes years to develop a vaccine. Headlines, saying how human trials are being fast tracked without animal testing give false hope and should have the alarm bells ringing.

Oh, and feel free to ignore everything I've written here, I'm not an expert either:)

There's a longstanding theory that a lot of these viruses "hide out" in animal populations and lay dormant for years and then just "pop up" every so often. I believe that was one of the theories with the Spanish Flu epidemic, because it just popped up everywhere at the same time instead of starting in one location and being transmitted via people traveling from one country to another.

What are you suggesting, the animals are in on a conspiracy?

We don't want to start with conspiracies or you might get banned like jcs (or I think he got downgraded and may not be able to post...at least for now, IDK).

I saw it the other day after a post he made was deleted and the other thread was closed, and then I checked-in on his profile and he's now a 'Bronze Member' and you can't send him messages, which is usually a sign of some sort of banning.

From what I've read on the Spanish Flu, it actually started in Kansas, then soldiers in WWI transported it overseas to Spain, where it mutated and became more deadly, then spread all over the world. They are learning monkeys can't be re-infected by COVID-19, they develop long lasting immunity which bodes well for herd immunity over time.

https://en.brinkwire.com/news/monkeys-cant-be-reinfected-with-the-coronavirus-scientists-find/

Earlier reports of people being re-infected are chalked up to some not fully clearing the virus out of their system and then relapsing. Slowing the spread, so it still infects but doesn't overwhelm health care systems, is the best course of action. The really vulnerable should self isolate until treatments and/or vaccines are standardized.

Yeah, I'm sure suggesting that Planet of the Apes level intelligent animals banded together both during the Spanish flu and now coronavirus and then communicated via telepathy across the world to simultaneously release the viruses in an effort to eradicate the human race is highly political in a political sort of politics.

I didn't realize jcs was the culprit to that topic getting locked. I did not see the controversial posts.

My last two jobs for the month cancelled today, so I'm now down to zero work. But I did just get an inquiry phone call, so not all is lost yet!

I need to drive to the bank and deposit this big insurance payout check for my UPS destroyed Amira before the banks indefinitely close; that'll pay my mortgage for half the year. Stocked up on groceries yesterday.

If you read the paper you find that there were four monkeys, two were subject to reinfection (of the two other monkeys one was euthanized early the other one was control). And one of the two reinfected was euthanized after a few days.
So I would not draw any conclusion on this experiment.

Unfortunately, there have been various reports where patients were diagnosed recovered who got reinfected afterward. There are two possibilities, one is that reinfection is possible the other option is that the viral suppressants during treatment made it appear the patients were recovered.

Tests have also shown that recovered patients can shed the virus up to 37 days. Many sources have questioned whether the 14-days quarantine is sufficient. Also, various sources claim that unsymptomatic patients can also be infectious.
Furthermore, tests have shown that the virus is airborne in small liquid drops for over 30 minutes, it can survive on hard surfaces for days, on softer surfaces like carton it can also survive but only for hours.

A patient in Japan got re-infected, which could mean immunity only lasts a short time or it could mean he still had some of the virus in his system and relapsed. Let's hope it's the latter or the chances of a vaccine are zero to nothing.

There is no proof of that. This is scientific herecy, and gets repeated on internet. I have microbiology background and this is not possible. The issue is that virus stays active for several days after patient might be asymptomatic. Virus can be infectious in people up to 28 days. Person can be at risk of secondary bactrial infection (due to lower immune response) or relapse of the same virus. Please use proper science sources, and not continiue to spread misinformation, that has no science behind it.

Did you create this account on DVXuser to talk about coronavirus? Jan 2020 join date, four posts, all in coronavirus topics.

C'mon man. There are apps for that. I haven't deposited a check in-person in years. I think my bank will let you do $50K via mobile deposit.

On a side note, I hit Chick-Fil-A for lunch and it was a ghost-town. I counted 10 other customers sitting and eating. Usually there are at least 2-3 times that just standing in line to be waited on with probably 40-50 dinning in. They were only using to-go bags instead of trays and not using the table markers to deliver food to tables, either. Also, no drink "refills", they would just make you a completely new one(new cup). A friend in SC said the one near him was only operating the drive-thru.

My bank (53 bank) limits mobile deposits to $7500. It's pretty annoying, especially since the closest bank is a 40 minute drive from my house. Yeah, I do mobile deposits for all checks under $7500. I probably need to find a different bank, but changing banks is a hassle.
