Dubbing question?

Does anybody know the reasoning behind only being able to dub to tape if you are shooting in 1080i / 720p when using the hvx200a? Why don't you have the ability to shoot in 480i and dub straight across to tape for a backup? I recently purchased an hvx200a to shoot off-road racing in the Nevada desert for a client that is building a national TV show. Dumping footage to a drive and sending it along is not a problem but it would be nice to be able to provide a mini DV back up in case he outsources any of the editing to someone who has problems with the MXF format.

Just seems convoluted to have to downconvert, squeeze and then reformat to DV for the dub.

Any insight or opinions would be appreciated.
