Dubbing P2 to DV

Hello,

I will be bidding on a video program for an environmental organization that I would shoot in 720 24PN and then encode to SD for playback on DVD. However, before even sending out RFPs, somethings come up that they need shot immediately. My thought was to shoot in 720 24PN and dub to DV tape in camera so they have a copy on tape in case I don't get the job.

When dubbing in camera, will 720 24PN be recorded to tape as 480 60i, and can I select either 16:9 or 4:3? Didn't see anything in the manual about this. What menu do I go to make these choices?

If I shoot in 480 30P or 24PA, can FCP edit these formats--don't see them available in the video set up?

Thanks,

Drew Harty

I'm not sure about the in-camera dubbing --- haven't done it. But I do know that you can easily convert a 24fps timeline for DVD using DVD Studio Pro.

As far as 480 30p or 24pa, those are actually 30 (or 24) over 60. So, you can just edit them in a regular 60i timeline like you'd do with the DVX. Hope that helps.

You can't change the aspect ratio, so if you downconvert in-camera from HD to DV, it'll be done as 16:9 DV. Actually converting 720/24pN to DV will result in 480i/24P or 480i/24pA footage, depending on how you tell the camera to do the pulldown.
