Dub Pistols in 24p

And yet another in a series of music-oriented packages created with the Panasonic DVX100. This one features Barry Ashworth from the Dub Pistols. We caught up with him in the basement of NYC's De La Guarda. Barry was in-town to DJ that night's De La Guarda show.

We used the DVX100 set at 24p normal (F5). The scene was lit with 1-ARRI 350+ fresnel and mic'd with the DVX100's on-board microphone. All interview shots are handheld. Due to intense reds, footage was deasaturated via FCP4 at a setting of 18 and a Broadcast Safe filter was also place over the footage.

One final interesting point about this piece is the opening and closing animation segments. The band was unable to provide us with an EPK or any B-Roll to incorporate into the story. All I had was their music video which I could only call to once. So, I over the weekend, I was searching for ways to find more footage. I noticed the band had a Flash postcard, for download, on their website. After watching it, I thought, "Wow! What a great opening and closing graphic." I played the postcard on my laptop (fullscreen), and pointed my DVX100 at it. Framed the shot, set the Synchro Scan and... Voíla! instant B-Roll. It came out flawlessly.

Audio soundbed is "Problem Is" and Flash postcard is "Official Chemical" [Courtesy of Geffen Records; 2003]
