You can manually focus the kit lens, go to Camera settings, Page 3 and under focus mode you can toggle through the various settings to manual, once switched to manual you can touch the LCD screen to magnify to aid in focusing using the focus/zoom ring on lens. That being said the continues auto focus is pretty good and the with tracking its even better....very similar to Canons Dual pixel auto focus on C100
