hey-
Im looking to buy a deck to use in conjunction with my avid and my dvx 100. With the price difference nominal, which deck would be a better choice? There is the whole wet lube/dry lube thing with sony and panasonic, which is a concern. Im also dissapointed the dsr 11 has no audio meters. however, it looks like the dv 2500 does have audio meters. Is one of the decks more sturdy or reliable? Does anyone have the panny deck, along with comments/suggestions?
thanks
brian

Re: .dsr11 vs. dv2500

I faced the same decision, and chose to go with the JVC BR-DV3000, which is the identical same deck to the Panasonic DV2500. Only difference is the color.

All three decks take large cassettes, play back DVCAM or DV, NTSC or PAL. The JVC/Panasonic does have an audio level meter, but it's of extremely limited value: it's a graph with 3 LED's. It lets you know that audio's being recorded, but other than that it's not of much value.

The benefit to the Sony is that it can record in either DV or DVCAM. Other than that, and it not having audio meters, they're really not much different. I found the Sony for about $1650, the JVC for $1399, so that made the decision easy.
