Anyone shoot DV on the HPX500 and DVCAM on the DSR570 and match it on a 2 camera shoot? Just wanting to know if there is a huge difference or not. I don't mind a bit of color correction, but will there be a big difference?
I do two cams with a DSR570 and my SPX800 , (the earlier SD version of 500), mostly I do this for theatre shoots so lighting is halogen, I use Preset (3200K) on both cams, looks great, just apply a very slight sharpen to the 570 in FCP to match closer the DVCPro50 that the Pana 800 shoots, this Works for me. But Try your own settings, preset is a good starting point, do a test shoot.
PS, I also connect a HDD to the firewire at the rear of the 570 so all is solid state capture on both cams.
I can't get my hands on the 570 to test, the camera guy isn't here for the next month or two and the job is in early september. So I don't think I can test it before the job.
So you recommend shooting in DVCPRO50 instead of DV on the HPX? I was thinking of leaving it on DV so I could match it with the 570, since DVCPRO50 has a higher color space than DV.
We'll probably use a 3.2 preset, since it's going to be indoors anyways.
Hi Dave,
I use the Pana at 50mbs because it's the main cam, and the 570 is simply the cutaway cam only used for a few secs to breakup the main cam vision and to give that "other angle", usually low down close to the stage on the extreem left and about 2meters from front of stage.
Some events i also shoot another performance from a Top angle (the jesus position) and mix that high camera angle into the prior performance, so it's a nice overview, usually kept wide.
then I mix of the three angles in post, I found this lifts the whole production, and is fun/challenge to edit.
DVCPro50 is great for the main cam plenty of grunt and will handle anything you can chuck at it, DV is a back-up / cutaway / last resort for me, if I had two cams that could shoot 50mbs I'd be a happy man.
BUT, as with most clients these days they want it as cost effective / cheap as possible.
Goodluck, yes 3200k, Or balance on the "identical white" prior to the shoot and use a monitor to satisfy yourself your happy.
