DSR-11 firewire problem

Hi
Sorry if I am posting this in a wrong forum.

I have a DSR-11. The firewire is broken, and the repair-company says says that it will cost approx 1.500 USD to fix it. Pretty much I think.

Do any of you know what the typical problem is. I think someone has connected / disconnected the firewire cables many times with power on.

Have anyone repaired their own machine by buying some parts (new cards to mount with ports and this like). Where did you buy the spareparts ? :-)

Every response will be appreciated.

Best regards John, Dk.

Unfortunaly your only option is to have it professionally repaired.

And this topic whould be in the DVX Hardware area.

I have contacted Sony and thay offer a change of the chip IC 4402 which handles the firewire signals - price approx 500 USD.

They also offer changing the hole JC-20 board if more than the IC 4402 chip is crashed. Price approx 1000,- USD.

So it's "much" cheaper than the first offer :)

The machine is runnng perfect - just not the firewireport, but I think it just is going to be used as an analog recorder/player from now on.

Sony says that the prices of spareparts are the same as at the time this model entered the market. That's why it seems unreal.
