DSLR shooters.. Which tripod?

Hi all I'm considering switching my 4x Manfrotto 055xb (I think..) tripods to something quicker to extend and retract and hopefully more stable and lightweight.. Pretty sure that combination doesn't come all in one tripod so please let me know what you guys use or recommend.. I'm looking at about a $500 limit for each

I use Manfrotto 701HDV heads, plus I have a Konova k5 50cm slider on one of them (with another 701HDV on top of it)

Take a look at the 546B from Manfrotto. Good match for the head. $20 above your target, but they hold up well.

thanks for the suggestion Alex. I do like the look of it, I think I looked in the past and the spreader put me off as I sometimes shorten one leg if I'm set by tight against say a step or something in order to put one leg shorter and up on the step, but now I look I can see you're still able to adjust leg length slightly below the spreader as it's mid level so that might work well. The only thing that puts me off is the weight. 3.5kg compared to 2.4kg of my current 055xprob's. Is 3.5kg considered light weight or is there something similar quality but lighter you can recommend?

It's a fairly hefty set of sticks, but I think the video makes it appear much more cumbersome than it really is. I also use a DSLR, with and without shoulder/rail rig. Never found it to be overkill because it does give stability.

do you know of anything lighter? the more I think of it, the more I realise I'm probably more concerned about lightweight than stability (obviously not going too light that its next to useless..)

I've found the 190CX3 with a stone bag to be perfect. You don't need to lug extra weight with you to get stability. Where I live, rocks are everywhere. I also use the 438 leveler to make life easier.

wow Jordan, that 190CX3 is LIGHT! I've used the more common 190 (i cant remember the exact number off hand) and it was very very thin, Id hope this isn't the same size but I fear it might be from the model number. I'll read up on this further.. thanks. Would still love a mid level spreader to be able to push up at it from underneath to start all 3 legs folding in an once, must make things much quicker..

edit: looking at the videos of it, it seems bigger than the other tripod I referred to which is good.. that must have been a different model entirely

Ok it's almost perfect, but just too short for me as I'm quite tall. I'd like the same sort of carbon fibre lightweight tripod but nearby he height of my current 055xb's..70.3" Max Height*with ColumnRaised; 55.9" Max Height*with Column*Lowered..

I'll keep searching! Any suggestions welcome..
