DSLR Rig

I was looking for a thread with DSLR rigs and I guess it does not exist, anyway thought I'd share my rig and mostly say how practical the Media Cage is, hence the design is very similar to flash brackets that have been used by photogs for decades, also Mark is a great guy and had it expedited for me ready to use for a wedding the same week I placed the order. All it really needs is a monitor.

Anyone not familiar with the cage here is a link http://web.me.com/markwatkins/northsidesports.tv/Media_Cage.html

That is so awesome! I have been looking for a rigging system that could do both video and still slr work with a flash, and that would work perfectly for both! How big of a beast is that to hand hold?

The way I have it rigged with the audio setup its not hand holdable, but with just a flash for photography it would be just fine, Mark also has several versions of the cage that have handles on them that might work better for hand held work, check it out at the above link.

I like this a lot. More elegant that what I put together. Very very nice. I like this page of his too, which shows more detail and components. I'd like to have more company info though.

Good find, Vladi!

Yeah I tried to position everything where it would be easily accessible, I wanted to avoid mounting out of sight, during ceremonies and receptions things happen and I'd like to know the minute something goes wrong, now only to figure where to position the monitor.

Perhaps if you mounted some of the gear inside the frame (like a mic), you could mount the monitor on the top outside.

I'd be curious how it balances (left to right). I find myself trying to mount some of the heavier items hanging over toward left of the center camera access, to make up for the weight of the rig and components on the right. Seems important especially when trying to balance a low or high angle handheld shot. Perhaps it's not important.

That thing looks sweet... nice and tall, plenty of room for your battery grip and then some!

The balance is right on when tilting and that's really all that matters for me, this rig is built to be mounted on the tripod.
