Dslr noise or am I alone?

since i bought the t2i, one thing thats been in persistence is the noise and compression artifacts. at first i thought it was my camera, but after downloading 7d and t2i samples from vimeo and watching full screen on my computer, i was sure it was the dslr.

2 questions

IF you keep the iso at 100 or default, even if your shooting a low light scene, should the noise be visible? or does the noise presist even if its 100 but its minimal?

2- are there mov samples from 5d 7d or t2i i can watch..maybe its vimeo..anyways..

thanks

There should be no noise at 100 ISO (or very little at least).

Vimeo does not add noise to files during it's own site compression.

Watch that you are not conflating sensor noise and compression artefacts. (??)

dude, can you provide me with a example of no noise or 7d or t2i? please, i would love to see the origianl video...maybe its my computer?

If the t2i is the same as the 7D then your cleanest ISO settings are 160, 320, 640, & 1250 if you feel like pushing it.

I believe the cleanest setting for the T2i is 200 iso. That being said, if your image is underexposed, you will have noise. Regardless of iso settings. The major cause of noise is lack of light. You have to properly expose your image. That includes the shadow areas in your image.

1] Yes there will be noise, especially in even tones, skies, and areas with low detail. There will be salt and pepper noise that's been blotched and glued together from the compression. There may always be fixed pattern noise. And banding noise if you're under-exposed. Noise will also increase if the sensor is getting hot. At ISO 100, there will be less gain'y amped up noise as you would get at ISO 1600 of course. But all this is normal.

2] Yup, look around anywhere.

I'm pretty sure you're seeing what we're all seeing if you've looked at other examples. Look at the 1080p video of House Season 6 final, the Kylie Minogue - All Your Lovers 1080p music video on Youtube, Philip Bloom's full 1080p videos. To be honest, internet compression is really good these days and negliable.

Still see the same kind of noise?

If yes, then you've realised that's part of the DSLR 'look'. Mushy blotchy processing with the liveviewfeed, debayer, and compression algorithms. It's certainly no Red, or Alexa, or Cine-alta, or Genesis, or Film. But it's still an awesome tool innit?

Quoted for truth.
