dslr baseplates (does the RR connect to a tripod)

so i want a small dslr baseplate similar to the redrock dslr base plate but it seems like you cant attach this straight to the tripod, but i could be wrong. id like to think there is a threaded hole on the bottom but they dont mention it.

so im looking for a simple plate to attach to my camera to my tripod that can hold 15mm rods.

i also plan on attaching this (http://store.zacuto.com/product.php?productid=471) quick realease to the baseplate.

I tried out the DSLR plate. While it's a pretty nice design for a rod setup, I found it to be overpriced and unversatile. I went ahead and got a manfrotto adapter plate so I can use it with all my support systems. I slapped an adapter onto my redrock shoulder mount rig so I can quickly swap things around.

Attaching a quick release to the RR baseplate wouldn't work (very well at least) since its design is to be flush against the form factor of the DSLR

No, the Redrock baseplate doesn't have threaded tripod hole in the bottom. You have to get this combo with a rod clamp and a cheeseplate for that.

I use two of Shoot35's tripod connectors and a raiser block for my rod rig. You can find the different items here. I might get a second raiser block to place underneath to have better clearance around the rods.

And I have the smaller Manfrotto 323 RC2 quick release with the 200PL-14 plate both on top of the baseplate for the camera and on bottom for the tripod. That way I can also snap down the camera on the tripod without the rod rig.

thanks for helping me confirm my suspicions with out having to purchase.

hopefully some more suggestions roll in.

This is the setup I use from redrock: http://shopping.netsuite.com/s.nl/c.472981/it.A/id.396/.f

I don't see why you couldn't mount that same style bogen quick release adapter and plate on top of the redrock DSLR base plate though... I use bogen quick release adapter plates on everything! Even my non-bogen tripod!

that red rock adapter isnt as appealing as the little one they make. i would be fine with the dslr one if it had a hole drilled in the bottom that could take a tripod screw.

all i need is a piece of metal to strap my camera to some rods and that onto a tripod plate. there should be a small lightweight dslr option.
