DRUNK STORIES!!! Share!

"i was talking about anyone who cant think of anything better to do for fun than drink. i find that sad personally, but to say that i am bigoted towards people like that is a very large stretch."

You talk about stretching a concept... How is it, that because several people have a few interesting experiences, out of hundreds if not thousands of times drinking, indicitive that "they can't think of anything better to do for fun than drink."

Proposing that because a few people have one or two stories in a LIFETIME of drinking is is stereotyping and making broad, gross generalities. Thats being a bigot.

If I started a thread called "mountain bike accidents" and people who had been riding for 10 years each had one or two stories of getting a few bumps or scrapes, would you say those people can't think of ANYTHING BETTER TO DO than engage in dangerous life threatening activities, and the fact that they posted stories are proof of that?

It occurs to me that every single person on this board is creative, intelligent, and probably pretty hard working. So much so, that we went out, and spent quite a bit of hard earned money to purchase a camera in the hopes of doing "something for fun". We spend a large part of our day reading on this site and learning how to do our craft.

The people whom youre referring to, the people whose only escape is alcohol, who can't think of ANYTHING better to do for fun than drink, whom you feel "sad" for (how condescending is that?), do not seem like the people on this board. In fact, I honestly don't know who you're talking about.

GUYS!
We need to stop this and realize three things:
1. This thread was to bring people together, make people laugh, and share stories.
2. Alcohol is a touchy subject. Because of so many problems, alcohol abuse, family problems, social problems, legal problems...and thusly Alcohol is looked down upon.
3. If someone is going to bring their opinion to the table, whether right or wrong, whether "pro alcohol-being able to have a good time without excessive behavior" or "anti alcohol-all people who drink are going down the (wrong path)"...then they're going to have their opinion...and it's not going to change...

AND REMEMBER...Opinions are like assholes...everyone's...EVERYONE's stinks...:)

So try and get along!

But that's just my opinion...you could keep fighting... but don't

lucidz. seriously.. cmon man.. why would you think i was directing my thoughts towards anyone on this board in particular.. i wasnt implying that anyone here with a drunk story cant have fun without drinking. i was i think your really misconstuing my intentions. i was just sharing my feelings on drinking too much in general. and nothing personall towards anyone here. heck, id sip some with you guys anyday- realistically.. i drink.. ive been drunk.. ive done stupid things.. like fall down stairs, and ralphing in the toilet.. ive been there. i could share my own stories. i decided early on after learning what being drunk is like that i didnt want to do it anymore.. and now its just a controlled social thing. but i know where you are coming from. and i still appreciate a good drink. i dont care if people mess up here and there...thats just life. i was just making a point that its ok to not want to drink too.. that deciding not to get drunk or drink is probably a safer and sometimes wiser decision and i respect it.. thats all. remember my original comment was mostly just silly, and my "soap box" speech as you call it was just making a point that its cool by me if people dont want to drink and making some points to the fact that i , from my own POV can understand why. so anyway .. share on. i have no problem with peoples stories, or how much they do or do not want to drink.

I don't understand justifying your position by using an extreme. Thats often what people who are frightened of something do. I hate to say this, but what I see in you is a form of bigotry - An intolerance to those that are different, and using extreme measures of that difference to justify their position.

An example of a bigot's speech, in terms of racism, often begins with "hey, i'm no racist, i have black friends" If you noticed, Iam made sure to preface his sermon with "hey i'm not crashin the party, I have fun guys!" Sorry, but when you precede a speech with backstory, it means your point is pretty weak.

Phil - I agree with everything you said.

iamloser - We have no reason to apologize. If he only wants a one-sided forum and makes hypocrytical accussations of slander as a defense, then let him live in his small, protected world.

But I can't allow him to say those things about me without a fight. Come on, this stuff is like shark chum for PK!

Lucidz - I can't control how you interpret posts (this one's pretty easy), but do you have any idea what you wrote? Is anyone reading this? Hello, moderators? I've never seen a post more offensive than yours and not just because it was aimed at me. It was offensive because you accused two people of bigotry, slandered their names, and attacked their character (publicly), just because their opinions differed from your own, they conflicted with the thread topic (hi-jack), or because you felt they were too preachy. You'll deny it but it's that simple and it's that true.

Even though you were in the majority you still didn't like what we had to say so you played the bigot card. The lowest form of defense. (Talk about being frightened by the minority.) From this I gather your definition of a bigot is someone whose opinion doesn't match your own? Because I noticed numerous names missing from your list of bigots, possibly because their "bigotry" comments and preachings weren't aimed at you or they supported your beliefs. And I guess my post about tolerance and diversity got lost in your search for bigot fodder.

Lucidz, did I EVER attack your character (until now)? After people posted their drunk stories did I reply with a disgust smiley or a "for shame!"? (actually I replied with a joke) Did I post an AA number? Did I tell anyone to find Jesus? All I stated was, it NEVER interested me (we all have opinions), here's why (to answer any questions), and that I didn't like how it defined "SOME PEOPLE." (Go to any thread on this forum and you'll find oppossing sides to a topic. A Vanilla thread will have some Chocolate posts. It's the great thing about a PUBLIC FORUM!) Another post was all about diversity and was a justified response to John's post about non-drinkers being weird. ...Yet, somehow he wasn't nominated for your list of bigots even though he showed intolerance to non-drinkers. Hmmmmm Food for thought. If you're going to make slanderous accussations you better be ready to back it up because I refuse to stand and let you call ANYONE on this forum a bigot, without knowing them personally.

Read our posts again, with this "open-mind" you talk about. I didn't read the drunk stories as you preaching Lucidz Gospel to me, even though it could be interpreted that way. I kept an open-mind and accepted that not everyone shares my beliefs (I realized that loooong ago), but I will continue to share my opinions and my experiences (the same as you share yours). Just because I'm in the minority doesn't make my message any less meaningful. And if you don't want to hear oppossing concepts, that don't support your own beliefs and values, then you are no better than the bigots you claimed others to be. ...And you might be thinking, "PK wouldn't have gotten this upset if it weren't true." No, I'm upset because I'm a victim of REAL bigotry everyday and your use of that word is offensive to anyone who has TRULY been a victim of it! I MUST be a TRULY tolerant person everyday in a country that, in every aspect, is OPPOSITE from my own. Nothing people do here is how I would do it, but I share my experiences or I learn from theirs. Either way, I've NEVER told people their not welcome, which is basically what you told iamloser and I.

Final Thought: If a group of people are talking about how they enjoy life, with a drink or two, and someone steps up and says I enjoy life without it. It does NOT mean they are PREACHING it simply means they want to share THEIR EXPERIENCES or they hope they'll find others who have the same experiences (like a mating call - unfortunatley my call attracted iamloser, whose already married). The SAME as if people were chatting about how bad alcohol is and YOU stepped up and said, "I kind of like it." You have a voice and I won't EVER stop you from speaking it. ...But Lucidz (Ben) is wanting to shut people up who don't think the way he thinks and I know others on this board are far more open to other people's beliefs. ...Try all you want but the minority and majority will be heard.

...And just because a true statement is condescending doesn't make it any LESS TRUE.

I've wasted enough energy on you. I will return when 1) a moderator acknowledges that Lucidz went to far and 2) I get a "sincere" public apology for being called a bigot.

PK out!

Edit: I changed this post a little because it was VERY late when I wrote the original.

All right, folks. Chill.

Keep it friendly, keep it light. Or keep it UP, and this thread gets locked and people get vacations.

Hey PK. I apologized to you in your PM, and I want to here too. I would have apologized sooner to Iamloser's thread, but I never got a chance to yesterday. I mainly post from work.

PK, I'm sorry to have lumped you in with my bigotry rant, I honestly saw nothing in your posts that made me think that, and am sorry you thought I was saying that about you at all. I really wasn't. To be honest I didn't MEAN to even call Iamloser a bigot, I just suck at wording things sometimes. Overall, it was COMPLETELY a misunderstanding in the first place. I really thought that Iamloser was specifically referring to people in this thread, and me. It wasn't until he said "surely you know I don't mean people here" that it hit me in the face that he wasn't attacking me. So now I feel pretty stupid :(

PK, I made a specific post in reply to you, and then one that was more geared towards Iamloser's comments, nothing you said was offensive or attacking whatsoever, and I didn't gear any of my venom towards you. I actually thought Iam was saying "All you people in this thread who have been drunk and been stupid are sad pathetic people" (i actually saw him say the word sad before, and thought it was unbelievably condescending). Now I realize, he was saying, that there are people who indulge to those excesses more often than not, because they can't find any other outlet, and he finds that sad. I totally agree!

I, like an idjet, thought he meant me/us. It was totally my fault, and I hope this apology makes up for it in some way. I am so used to debating things with friends, I often use coarse language, and just figure 'they'll still be my friends in the morning'. Its a silly assumption on a message board where no one knows me that well. I certainly wouldn't want to alienate any of you people, as you are all, as I said, creative and smart, and a great source of information.

So if I offended anyone else, or outright pissed em off, I'm sorry. You can PM me and call me a pooface if you want :(

edit: I found the post PK was referring to
"I'm not sure what PK and Iam hope to gain by preaching the gospel of sobriety. Its not going to change anyones minds, and its coming off very condescending and stereotyping.

You guys are talking about people who are always drinking, constantly drunk, constantly losing memory, etc. I don't understand justifying your position by using an extreme. Thats often what people who are frightened of something do. I hate to say this, but what I see in you is a form of bigotry - An intolerance to those that are different, and using extreme measures of that difference to justify their position."

I am sorry PK, the only connection between you and Iam was preaching sobriety. I meant to say I dont know what you hope to gain by preaching blah blah, and then generalize the next statement, instead it looked like I was accusing you. I was making an accusing statement based on Iams post which I thought was an attack.

Well this thread took a dip and then bobbed back up.

Personally I never took anything PK or IAL said as preachy; it's just opinions. Just because an opinion differs doesnt make it preachy.

AND NEWS FLASH

...when I said I do not understand people who drink and I added the line 'I mean this respectively' I meant it as harmless as "I don't understand people who don't eat meat." or "I don't understand people who don't watch movies" or "I don't understand poeple who choose the XL2 over the DVX.."

Which means I don't. It has nothing to do with anything other than "You don't drink? Really? Hmmm."

IAL chooses not to eat meat. Cool. I don't understand it personally but oh well for me. Our new 'Sister in Law' to be is a Vegan. Okay. So this means there is more Chops left at dinner

Anyway. No big deal that we are different. I have to admit; if I had to agree with anyone's general take it would be IAL. Drinking in Moderation is mellow as yellow.

Yeah, I've just realized that I need to slow down a little on the drinking. It was getting kinda out of hand. Every night. Not that I needed to, I just would get bored and have nothing else to do (and the bar is always stocked, so it's just too damned easy to mix one, ya know).

I'm gonna put some more of my free time into filmmaking and not waste my time and money being drunk all the time. Don't get me wrong, I'll still drink, but I'll save it for social gatherings and editing .

I don't have a story of myself...But one of my friends came home with scratches all over him. Turns out he got drunk and wrestled a thorn bush.

I quit drinking when I realized that I couldn't click my amygdala forward when I was drunk.

This came as a shock to me, because I was able to click other people's amygdala when i was blinded by booze...

Now that I am sober, I click my amygdala all the freaking time. In the car, at night before bed, in the shower... hell, I even click my amygdala in the bathroom at work on slow days.

Ahem, what was this thread about again?

Ok, has nothing to do with anything, but I got trashed off car bombs at some bar in NYC, if I wasent so trashed at the time I would remmber the bar. I walked out of the bar, stumbled around and realized I had to piss. I was to trashed to open a door to anything, and plus it was preety late, so any places that would allow me to piss were already closed, even the bars. I decided to find a spot in the road. Unlike my friends, I am unable to just unzip and do it in the road, I had to find a hidden little area where no-one could disturb my flow of alcohol induced flow. I finally after almost an hour...probably only like a minute, but was a few blocks away, so had to be some large span of time, found a car garage style opening that was dark and open. I ran to the furthest corner and unzipped in a hurry. I suddenly heard rustling, and didnt know what it was, looked down and saw a guy under papers and wutever else looking at me with his hands up as if I was holding up at gun point. I freaked out threw my little buddy back in its place and ran to the other side of the garage, pissed as the homeless and guy watched from across the way......no whats wierd is that, i dont remmember the cute chick i hooked up wit at the bar, but i remmembe almost pissng on a homeless guy

hope you enjoyed

-Matt-
