Dropping 60p footage into 23.98 timeline (fcp)

One of the advantages I've noticed to shooting 720/60p over 720/24pN/60fps is that it records sound. A lot of times I'll want to get a shot, and I might want it slow mo, but I might want to use the original clip.

Now I've taken 60p footage, dropped it into the 23.98 timeline, said "no" to changing the sequence, and it's played. I wasn't sure, but I've always guessed that it was just removing 36 frames every second to make the 60p clip 24p. Is that correct?

Is a 60p shot clip, dropped into a 23.98 sequence 100% equal to a 24pN clip? Or is there any reason that 60p would be a bad idea to ever possibly use as normal speed 24p footage with audio?

Sorry if that didn't male sense.. I'm not sure if I worded my question right.

Well, it can be done, but FCP doesn't pull out the frames all that smoothly. I have done this. Footage shot with the Varicam at 720p60 so I could slow it down, or use it as normal. But just dropping it into the timeline wasn't all that smooth. I had to use the Nattress Standards Converter to get a better cadence from the footage.

how to conform using cinema tools:

when you have all of your quicktimes in your capture scratch folder go and select the ones you want to convert to slow mo. i make another folder somwhere, usually in my capture scratch as a designated 60p folder. then copy, not move, but copy(select the clips and hold option when you drag them) to your desired folder.

then:
open cinema tools
create new project
change video & sound tc rate to your desired fps
change telecine to 24, (if you're doing a 30p project, 30)
hit ok
cinema tools will open
go to file> batch conform
navigate to the folder where your files are at. you only need to select 1 file in the folder, then hit open. it will conform all of the files in the folder.

now when i have all my clips converted i go back and rename them by adding "60" in the name somewhere. then i move them all back into my projects capture scratch folder and import them into final cut.

How much is that software? Is that the best software for that?

I just have a lot of times when I'd really like the option to shoot a clip and have the option for a 60fps slow mo OR a 24fps normal speed clip with audio.
