Dropped frames

Hey folks; I've started to get dropped frames on my DVX100A clips every time I start a new clip. After the dropped frames, it records without dropped frames for the rest of the clip. But then when I stop the camera and start it up again for the next shot, I get dropped frames in the first few seconds of the new clip. I'm using the best Panasonic minidv tape and I only have about 30 hours on my camera. Any ideas on what's happening and how I can correct it? I don't have time before my next shoot to send the camera out for repair (or cleaning) and I'm reluctant to use cleaning tape on the camera. Please help. Thanks. Get the pany cleaning tape and see if that helps. You said you use the best pany tapes...I take it they are the MQ's right and not the DVC's..PS have you been using other brands of tapes..IE Sony, Maxell, etc..if so you may have clogged heads. Another thing is that before you shoot using a new tape you might break it in by fast forwarding the tape to the end first then rewind to the beginning then record so there is no kinks in the tape cartridge.

After each recording try using the rec chk button (located between the zoom and the tape eject) once you stop recording and before you restart recording again... if you power the camera off do it again before you restart recording. Just a thought.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am using the MQ tapes and have not used any other tapes with the camera. As I said, I have been reluctant to use the Panasonic cleaning tape. Several people on these boards have said that they can ruin the recording head. What do you think? I'll try fast forwarding the new tapes to the end and then rewinding to see if that helps. It's hard to see how it will since the dropped frames occur each time I start a new shot, not randomly. But I'll give it a try. Ncje, I'll also try your suggestion of using the rec chk button between shots. Thanks again for your suggestions guys. Henry mindfulproductions.com
