Dropped Frames,why?

What causes frames to be dropped when importing video into your computer? I recently installed Vegas 5 and tried to inport some footage today, as it was loading in frames were dropping by the hundreds, any answers, please help!

A lot of reasons for this.
The main ones: your capture hard disk should be different from your system disk (or the one where Vegas is installed), make sure all of your capture settings are set up properly (check your Vegas help file for "avoiding capture problems" or similar), defragment your hard disks etc.

diskproblems.
what can help:
- defrag disk
- make sure you got at least 30% of diskspace left
- do you have Intel Application Accelrator installed?
- is your disk a 7200rpm disk with enough cache on it (8MB recommended)
- as mentioned: systemdisk should be different than mediadisk.

One major reason (at one occasion it proved to be THE ONLY reason for dropped frames) is DISABLE YOUR ANTIVIRUS or any programs running in the background when capturing!!!

Thanks guys, you are the best! It was the antivirus program running in the backgroud. I shut it down for a bit a bingo perfect capture!
