Dropped frames explanation please

Alright theres a lot of threads about dropped frames but I cant find anything that answeres my little question. Do dropped frames during playback affect your video. Are the frames removed from your video in a way or were they just not read so your video skipped a little when you were editing but when your computer exports it will take the time to not skip it?

Also an other newb question: I am now using a canon 7D and I am getting horizontal lines that pop up and look like breaks. No I am not talking about interlacing, If I knew the term I would say it but I dont. I have seen this many times on videos but this is the first time I see it in my videos while editing. I want to know if anyone can Identify what this is, is it caused by the larger, heavier image? I also want to know if it is an issue that will stay in my edit and remain flawed in the output or is it just that my computer is too weak to process something visualy. maybee my graphic card?

Thanks in advance!

I have read that page and I have done some research but nothing tells me if it is actualy damaging or not.

For the lines I am using mpeg streamclip to convert but That is not important since I want to understand the problem ( if it even is a problem) so that I can solve it.

That's why I asked what media drive you were using.

Also, what ProRes setting are you using on what version of FCP?

What Mac?

DF on playback don't damage the video files. The application is dropping the frames due to some issue which needs to be identified by answering these queries when you get a chance.'

Others may chime in if you provide the info.

im storing my files on the computer and importing from there so its the system drive. I have now read that getting an external harddrive is essential for editing.... is it realy or can I change some settings on my computer?

Capturing to your boot drive and then using it to playback means that the everything is competing simultaneously for access to the HDD: OS, FCP, and media.

Never recommended, and not a good idea.

Always a good idea to indicate this up front because it heavily bears on a response.

good luck
