Dropped footage in at half size in project settings, now want full size??!?!

I made a newbie mistake. I dropped my footage into my timeline with the project settings set to 640x360. The footage is full 720p 1280x720 from my GH1.

The problem I have is I've edited the whole thing and color corrected and everything. Now I want to render it to 1280x720. It appears to me that the quality is simply 640x360 resized. What I've done is changed the project settings back to 1280x720, and am rendering out to that size... it doesn't look as sharp as it should. :(

I know I had to completely re-generate my text and copy the settings I had on the original text clips... now it looks clear. I really really really don't want to drop every clip back in and redo every edit.

Anything I can do? I've tried to copy and paste each clip, choosing "Create a new copy" option and that doesn't work.

Any help is extremely appreciated.

It shouldn't matter when you render -- but you should be able to change frame size in the project properties with no ill effects. Then, for any text, if necessary, change the size of the media in the text editor.

Whoa, didn't know you could do this. Thank you thank you thank you!

Editing 720p in a half-linear-sized project will not necessarily help speeding things up, Vegas will have to scale down instead of just displaying the video. You can get the same or better effect by scaling down preview video to half the size. Also, use Preview mode in the preview window, not Good and definitely not Best, the latter is a resource hog. Good preview method might deliver better detail, on contrary with the lowest quality preview method the image will be blurry.

Also, unlike some other NLEs, Vegas does not write back to source files and does not generate intermediate files based on project settings, it always uses whatever source files you have, and scales them in realtime.

Yeah, speed is not an issue for me. Running 3.5GHz with 2.5GHz NB Phenom II 940 quad core system. Video preview window on Best plays AVCHD like butta. [/BRAG]

What do you cool it with? Liquid nitrogen?

:D I wish. Actually, I'm currently using a Thermalright Ultra Extreme (TRUE) Black Revision C, with two GentleTyphoon AP-15 fans in push-pull. I haven't lapped or pressure modded it yet... once I do I should be able to hit a higher clock

Dude, you are on the forefront of cooling tech (at least, air-cooling tech). I should do something for my machine. When the CPU warms up to 64C, it throttles down and my fps drop to like 5 or 7. Pitiful. And this is at only 2.2GHz, on the quad-core Phenom. Thanks for heads up, reading up the article on AnandTech.

good lord...i just bought a gh1 and am now beginning to edit....yabyum's post actually makes me feel like an infant. i hope i didn't make a bad decision in replacing my trusty xha1

Oh man, that's terrible. What motherboard do you have? First replace that cooling!

Get this heatsink: http://www.heatsinkfactory.com/prolimatech-megahalems-cpu-cooler.html

Pair with a couple good fans in push-pull, I suggest Zalman ZM-F3, actually my favorite fan right now. Good reseller here: http://www.petrastechshop.com/12zazmsicafa.html

Also get this Thermal Interface Material: http://www.petrastechshop.com/icdi7cathco.html

^ for mounting the heatsink, paste between the CPU and heatsink. It's one of the best out there, and there are very good instructions for it on the Innovation Cooling website. I also recommend heating up the tube before you apply it as it makes it easier to work with.

AHHH, I just realized you have a Phenom I, and well.. they kind of suck :( Which motherboard do you have? You might be able to easily upgrade to a Phenom II. You can help your overheating problem with some much simpler solutions, I wouldn't recommend all that stuff I wrote above because it's just not worth it to spend on a Phenom I. So to solve your heating problem you could probably just replace your heatsink, heck you should be able to just reseat and put some quality TIM on your current cooler.

A good heatsink you could get is a Thermolab Baram: http://www.heatsinkfactory.com/thermolab-baram-universal-cpu-cooler.html $45, not very expensive... a cheaper solution would be a Hyper 212+: http://www.provantage.com/cooler-master-rr-b10-212p-gp~7COOL077.htm about $30 shipped. The Baram is better though (despite not coming with a fan), because it's some real premium cooling you could use on a Phenom II if you upgrade.

Finally once the cooling is solved, you should be good. Personally I'd disable the heat throttling in the bios, but it shouldn't matter either way. If you have any questions feel free to post em here, or you can go here, my favorite computer forum: www.overclock.net
