GH4 Driftwood V-Log L Samples - V709 & Arri Alexa LUT Comparisons

I downloaded and brought Nick Driftwood's 10 bit V-Log L samples into Davinci and applied the Panasonic VLog_to_V709_forV35_ver100 LUT, and also the Arri Alexa LogC to Rec709 LUT. Created this album on imgur to make comparing them easier.

My intent was to start looking into what LUT I will want to load into my Odyssey 7Q+ to monitor during production. Ultimately it will be a custom LUT but looking for the LUT that will serve as the basis. The Varicam LUT looks more natural to me.

Ha! I just did the same thing, though much less extensively and less elegantly in the V-LOG thread. I concur with you. The Varicam LUT looks very nice. Skin tone with the Alexa LUT looks too green and a tad overexposed.
I don't know if this is heresy or not, but the Varicam LUT gives the skin tones a BMC look.

Panasonic LUT looks very nice, some of the best GH4 color I've seen.

Alexa LUT does not look good with panny vlog imo

Thanks Zak, great comparison - it really shows that the Panasonic native LUT gives the most natural conversion (as it should, given they built it).

Panasonic had beta testers for V-log, to get feedback from users. So relax.
