Speaking of Hitchcockian, as is well known, Brian De Palma was somewhat obessed wth Hitchcock, and “Body Double” is frequently cited as his tribute to Hitch. But for my money, one could say the same about Dressed To Kill - which if anything is almost more of a tribute.
To me, this is also a very enjoyable film, and for sheer technical achievement, I think the camera work is even better than in Body Double. The casting of Angie Dickinson is also very inspired and she is quite brilliant here.
I wish film directors would study films like DTK, to understand how one uses a camera instead of the mediority and incompetence we see so often these days.
Meanwhile, BDP is a great example of a director in decline - he made so many good movies, and then fell off the cliff and churned out mounds of unwatchable footage - very tragic. All IMHO, YMMV.
