Dreamworks Production coming to town

I live in Hawaii and I have a business other than filmmaking. Recently I have learned that Dreamworks Production is going to occupy some vacant building stalls next to my shop. Just a rundown and retired Sugar Plantation motor pool facility.

They're going to be here till September filming a Ben Stiller Comedy. Some of the shooting locations will be in the boonies. My friend was involved in building a helipad for them, and it is somewhere accessible by only 4 wheel and helicopter.

Question: Is this an opportunity to learn about filmmaking?

Comments: filmmaking is not my career yet, but I am trying to learn more about it before I make a total commitment.

Question: What should I be observing?

Comments: I have learned alot from DVXuser.com and all other associates linked here. I know the basics and am wondering what should I learn to get me in the expert class.

Question: Is it a waste of time, to try to get on board and be a gopher for them?

Comments: Locals have access to the filming site, probably as gophers, stagehands or slaves. They pay well ,but not even close to my current wages in my business , so any time spent will be invested time in learning filmmaking.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I live just north of Ft Worth, Tx and had a similar situation like this almost a year ago. I was 17 at the time and Jenkins Entertainment[you've probably never heard of them] was filming a movie with Stephen Baldwin[hold the applause lol] in my town. I found out about it and went looking for the set. To make a long story short I walked on the set and was introduced to a producer and they signed me up to be a Production Assistant. It was a pretty cool experience and i learned alot about how the pros do things.[lighting, gels, cues, camera stuff] They did shoot at really late hours though. Crew call was around 5:30pm, "lunch" around midnight and wrap around 6:00am. I didnt stay past lunch most nights though. All in all i was glad i had the oppourtunity. I didnt get paid but oh well, i was only 17. Since its dreamworks i bet they might have security. Find the set as soon as you can and talk to anybody. Everyone i met was really helpfull and they all taught me alot.
