Drama-Fest Voting Instructions

I agree John. After horrorfest, I had suggested that there be a catagory for Best Picture with the award going there. BUT, I thought that it would be great to have the sub catagories with Best Editing, Best Cinematography, etc.

That is one reason why I do like THIS voting system but would like to at least offer my top 3 films.

Anyway, it is about making a film... right!?
 
Ted, don't listen to him :Drogar-Love(DBG): . I guess i'm gonna have to call my muscle. scare some votes out of people... haha

If I got three votes I would definitely put the best film at the top and the other two that were really good but not quite as good in their respective places. If we, collectively as dvxers, can only claim one film in the voting system then I have a feeling that the votes are going to be greatly slanted towards one or two films and all of the other great films will be neglected for the 2nd and 3rd place positions simply for the reason that the one vote system doesn't give them the option of getting attention. I think three votes would make for more balanced and accurate voting results.

No matter how many you can pick, you eventually have to settle on which one you liked best, so I don't really see a problem with one vote. I am going to watch EVERY entry before making my decision as it is only fair to everyone that devoted their time to producing those entries. After a complete viewing, I'll probably narrow it down to the best two or three films, watch those, and make my decision. Hopefully, I'll be able to offer feedback to each filmmaker. The feedback my be on a curve, though, based on the experience of the filmmaker. Voting will not be on a curve.

I think what it does though is limit us as dvx voters to express the kinds of films we like the best and are the most interested in. Multiple votes I believe allows for more varied and dynamic tastes and opinions on what we consider the best film whereas one vote polarizes the opinion market and leaves other good films to be less recognized.
Realistically, adding multiple votes probably won't change who wins, but it will defenitely change 2nd place, 3rd place, and so on when people are more allowed to express what they like.
 
Keep in mind, this is all subject to evolution/escalation. We're gonna try it this way and see how it goes. The voting has changed in most every festival, and we won't know how well it works until we actually do it.
 
i thin kthis one will be good. In the event of a tie, i think you should pic the one you mods lke best, keep it a secret and jsut declare a winner.

I'm certainly not trying to argue with you Justin, but if you really want to see a wide variety of opinion, firmly expressed, just take a trip to the the FILM DISCUSSION forum. You quickly learn about the variety of "individual taste" there. Anyway, here's to watching some good shorts...:beer: :beer: :beer:

As long as I don't have to watch a short of some guy skinning an animal while I listen to sounds of a baby crying, I think I'll be good.
