Hmm, well I honestly don't know how all that works. Herman did it and I know when you go to our page, it lists the release as the Exposure Film Contest. So I dunno. All I know is they wanted $35 to put a poster up. No thanks.

I think I missed a few details on this contest..

what are the prizes?
how many places win prizes?
due date?
send to where by when?
what format/file/medium?

the prizes are a sprinkle of fairy dust
a cup of pixie tears
and jar full of star shine

just joking, but the last contest the prize was a Ferrari Testarossa, a date with Liv Tyler, and a fabulous 3 week all expenses paid vacation in Los Vegas.

But seriously though, really ... since they last contest was so extravagant and so big, this one will be much smaller. So there will be some kind of prize or maybe even prizes, but they could be anything from a Tshirt to a crane. In either case prizes haven't been announced yet. The idea is people enter for the sake of just making a film and getting feedback and then the prizes are a bonus.

Screw the cup of pixie tears, i'm fine with just a cup. Bloody puppy attacked mine.

But I'd much more value feedback, advice and the community.

As long as this one is a credible contest & actually sees a DVD release, etc. I don't care about the prizes per se. HeroFest ended up feeling like it was the Red Headed Step Child & just got kind of swept aside. Surprisingly, HorrorFest hasn't had a DVD release yet either.

I saw that Justin Durban even has "Brown Waters" up on IMDB. Edgen/Justin, how'd you manage to get it up there? Maybe it's just a luck of the draw with regards to who at IMDB is checking the submissions for new titles?

the official policy is something like "must be of general interest" usually meaning screened somewhere other than the internet, but not always.

texas fortune was at troma dance
Bloody Mary was on sci fi / sundance channels websites

don't know how exactly Man Who Came from Hollywood or CPU got on

tried to do all of mine in spring and got the same response Spidey got on his more recent attempt

one thing: "I think DVXuser won't do" refers to what you are citing as the source to prove it screened on DVXuser, as in an article somewhere else would be proof, but not sure on this reasoning

In any event, it's not an automated process - some human reviews the submission, so if there is personnel change or someone's in a good mood or not you may or may not get lucky.

One suggestion which I'm going to try when I resubmit - keep the 1st submission simple. In other words don't list every cast member and grip and every award - just director, writer, film, maybe production company. Might be more likely to get in if it's less for them to verify and enter (less work). Once you get something on there it's much easier to add information and make changes. It's a lot of work to enter all the data anyway so that's another reason to keep it simple when you don't even know if you are going to get accepted yet or not.

yeah but it screened in NY so thats official i just took of the dbx user stuff to see if it works this time.

plus cpu played at 10 other festivals so it got on for that.

The most important thing is to enter a URL. They need a third party URL (from a festival, review etc.) for proof. Almost every time I enter this, my title gets on IMDB.

i never saw CPU is there anywhere i can watch it?

this is why dvxuser alone won't do:
http://www.imdb.com/updates/guide/festivals

"Our title acceptance criteria state that one way for a film to qualify is if it was accepted by:
film festivals that don't accept everything regardless of its quality
To help with this guideline, the following are some common examples of film festivals or similar events that do not meet this criterion. Please note that a screening at one of these events might be listed for a title that qualified for other reasons; in other words, just because you see a screening at one of these events listed, that doesn't mean it's the reason the title qualified.
Some general categories of screenings that do not generally qualify:
  • The 48 Hour Film Project (and anything similar): These events are not festivals; inclusion is not determined by the quality of the finished work. They are most similar to a film school, and the primary audience of the films produced is the fellow participants. However, if the people involved have previous valid credits (valid under our current rules), they are accepted.
  • Film markets (most notably, Cannes Market and American Film Market [AFM]): Participation in these is determined primarily by payment of a fee, not by quality of the film. Screenings may be open to the public, and these will often affect the year associated with a title, but this doesn't change the essentially pay-to-play nature of the event.
  • Film school "festivals" (and other showcases): Generally speaking, these are really showcases for the work of that school's students. Essentially all finished projects are shown, regardless of quality or general public interest. This applies to other showcases calling themselves festivals, such as those for a filmmaking collective; unlike a festival, a showcase doesn't have an independent selection panel, and doesn't accept works from outside the group being showcased.
  • Online-only "festivals": Generally speaking, these are not sufficiently selective, and are really just a special case of the existing rule that, just because a film is available on a web page doesn't mean it qualifies. They generally don't have the level of exposure of a real festival."
There's also a clause about small number DVD runs as not qualifying as distribution.

Well, what if there is NO dialogue in the short, like Geoff said?? Will naming the main character in the credits do? Because I am planning to use no dialogue but I don't want to tag my main character in a Tarantino-like fashion...

Where's all the info regarding format,file size/inscription/etc. ???

Thanks
