Drama-Fest Information

would it be wrong/against the rules to put a teaser in my thread? it doesn't contain any footage from my film (cause I haven't shot any yet), but I was just fooling around in Premiere and cut a short teaser.

anyway, good luck to everyone making films for this fest!

what the prizes ??????????????????

Well... I think this time around there might be prizes but, I wouldn't
expect it to be on the scale of an HVX. If there are I certainly don't
want to know about them until the day before uploading begins.

Keeps everyone on their toes.

yes indeed.. remember, these fests are out of pocket.. no entry fees or anything, And we cant afford to give away a HVX every 4 months.

There will be prizes.. but if your just entering dramafest to win a prize, i would prefer you didnt.

Prizes are great, but for me they are just icing on the cake. Winning the contest and getting recognition from fellow filmmakers is what I'm in it for - If I get something extra for it that makes it all the sweeter. :)

Also I think that ti s a good exercise that helps me to better refine my abilites / skills, so each time I walk away better equipped as a filmmaker.

The rules seem pretty clear that you could do a teaser as long as you absolutely do not use footage from your film. I've toyed with the idea of doing a little voiceover teaser with some hand-drawn images or possibly just some production stills from test shots. So, if this is NOT kosher, somebody please say so. I don't think it is at all prohibited according to the rules anyway.

He'll have to clarify, but I'll take a stab at what he means:

Since there is no payout for the time invested in the form of cash, the prizes can be seen as an alternative to cash income as the prize would be / could be used on future projects.

Is there any kind of award for the wintter of the festival?
The prizes have not been listed as of yet, but there apparently will be prizes. The main gist of these contests though is to get those of us that have these expensive cameras sitting on a shelf, taking them off the shelf and using them. To do what we bought these cameras to do. Basicaly practice for a larger payoff in the future. Prizes are a nice plus but for a lot of us, it is not the motivating factor.

Teasers: A teaser is fine as long as it doesn't contain any actual footage from the film (or outtakes). So teaser--yes, trailer--no. The overall idea is not to beat people over the head with your awesome promotion machine, but let the film speak for itself.

Prizes: We'll have some prizes, but as Jarred mentioned--if your focus is on winning a prize, then DVXFest is not for you. The idea is to motivate and learn from each other and enjoy each other's films. We screen *every* film entered, so the emphasis is on participation, not competition.

Thank you for the reply. You are absolutely right. I went out looking for a script last night and found a person, so i will be entering the festival. Looking forward to entering!

I am excited! I hope I have time to do this, currently in pre-production on something else :crybaby:

[*]The central character of all films must be named Eric or Erica.

The main character in my last flick was "Hort". For some of us having a character name supplied is a good thing. :)

all i wanna know is what that green glob is, ... though some of the other unanswered lines intrigue me as well.
