Yeah, given the bizarre condition that you only get the money if you make the goal, it seems prudent to just set lower goals and count on kickstarter for a certain percentage.

I'm not sure I see the real benefit of Kickstarter though, over, say partnering with a non-profit arts organization like fractured atlas. FA takes a small piece, but in return you get to offer a tax deduction to the people donating.

I guess maybe kickstarter contributors can use Section 181 while it lasts...though I'm not sure about all of the ins and outs. Meaning, since kickstarter is not an investment, if section 181 would apply...
