DR-100 + Preamp Question

I have no experience with that but based on the 'you get what you pay for' MSRP $86.00 price, I would be skeptical of the quality.
Not much available gain either, which could be a problem
Not battery powered either I assume

To add to Rick R, I'd prefer my actual setup (JuicedLink CX211) even if it ends up with a 3.5mm cable to the recorder and not XLRs. It solves the Gain and Battery Powered issues at least.

My personal experience is spend some $$ on the preamp because you can keep it as you upgrade other items. I have had a MixPre for a LONG time and have zero regrets. It's not a "mixer" but it has some bells and whistles that will make life easier. For most stuff you probably won't need more than two channels and stepping up to three channes is a big $$$ step. You should assume you are going to need at least two channels. Also don't assume you are going to get much better performance with out spending some $$. IF you will always have AC power the price drops a bunch. A Mackie 1202 is a good step up but you are going to have to rewire it to work on batteries.

Again my experience. But you can go pretty cheap if you need some flexibility and can be AC powered OR you are not aiming at better quality, just flexibility but to really get a step up AND battery powered you are going to have to bite the bullet and spend some money. I built my own and used many different options in my life till I landed at the MixPre. My first quality pre (batt powered) cost more and used 9 9V batteries. The MixPre wasn't any better sound wise (they both sound great) but it runs on two AA batts and has fantastic limiters. It has made everything I put in fron of sound better.

Hello!

Looking to add a preamp to my DR-100 + NTG2 combo. Was browsing around and came across this:

Anybody have any experience?

Thanks,
Brandon

Hi,
May I ask what settings you have to use to get a decent level from "regular" boom height?
Ive been testing my new MKE600 today with a Tascam dr-100 and I get a pretty good result.
I have the mic-gain at H and the levels somewhere around 6 and the battery phantom power on the mic turned on.
Im so curious to compare to a ntg-2 but I dont know anybody that have one.
