Download wows

This is a new problem I have been experiencing with my 100A. When I download my media to my Mac I get digital image glitches sometimes. There seems to be no reason why it is happening because if I see the flaw during the download I can rewind the dvx and re-download from were the error was and it is fine. I have cleaned the heads on the dvx and it did nothing, I did the download with the bat and on AC and it still made the glitch. Has anyone else had this issue? It is making my work hard as the only work around I have right now is to sit with the dvx on download and recapture the clips that imported with the digital image blur. It is a real time drain

I will try another firewire cable, I did try the other port on the mac and it was the same but I did not try another cable. I will give that a shot and let you know what happens. Thanks

You may need to defrag your drive. This can cause the exact problem you're describing. It's best to use a dedicated hard drive just for video to avoid this problem. Mac unfortunately does not come with a defrag program but I use iDefrag which runs about $30 and fixed the problem for me.

I had this same problem. After trying just about everything the only solution was to purchase a dedicated hard drive for video capture..sorry dude..

A dedicated drive is the best solution but that wasn't necessary for me. (I'm using the Intel Core 2 Duo iMac). I do have an external drive but just for saving projects and backing up my main drive. The internal drive works perfectly for capture in both FCP and iMovie after defragging.

Also keep in mind that few external drives will actually work for video capture without dropping frames. They need to be FW800 and extremely fast, preferably a G-Raid.

I am using a Intel Core 2 Duo iMac as well. What did you use for a defrag software as I read some reviews for idefrag and they were either great or horrible. I was concerned that I would have intel issues with the software. As you are using a Intel mac I would like to know what you defragged with. Thanks

So I spent my $30.00 and used idefrag last night. I ran it on the quick internet defrag option as I do not know how to use the other options as of yet. I had alot of work to do in video editing so I was unable to do a camera download but I will post here to let everyone know how it worked out when I do a download. NeverColdCall if you have a workflow on how to do a full defrag as I need another bootable drive please let me know how to do this. Thanks

Hi Preacher, I also recommend checking to make sure you don't have a lot of programs running at once.

Also, I don't make a habit of doing this, but I just wanted to let you know that what you are referring to as 'downloading' is actually 'digitizing'. We all get what you are saying, but it will help you in the future. :)
