I created these guides for a film I shot last Fall, and since then I have had several people ask me how I shot for 2.40:1 on the HVX200.
Rather than trying to explain the process each time, I have decided to upload the P2 files and instructions in case anyone else out there would like to shoot for this aspect ratio.
The download is free. I would just be interested to know if it is being used on any projects.
All the best,
Dan
1. Download: http://www.signaturelight.com/downloads/2.40-1_bars_hvx200.zip
2. Extract the contents of the .zip file to a folder on your hard drive
3. Copy the files (standard "CONTENTS" folder and "LASTCLIP" .txt file) to a freshly formatted P2 card.
4. Place the P2 card with the files on it back in the HVX200 (or other P2 camera) and play the clip.
5. Pause the clip during playback, and you will have a horizontal white area in the middle of your frame.
6. Place some kind of transparent material (I use a PDA protective cover) on the LCD screen of the camera while the clip is paused and draw framing lines for the 2.40:1 area on the transparent material.
7. If you are using one of the Panasonic LCD monitors it should have corresponding "cinemascope" markings that can be displayed by setting them up in the menus of the monitor - otherwise, if you are using a different external monitor, be sure to use tape to cover up the area outside the 2.40:1 area for on-set viewing of the area being framed.
