Downgrade HMC 150 to SD

Hi Everyone,

I just bought an HMC150 and haven't even played with it yet! I recently got hired by a company to shoot multiple weddings and they specifically want 16:9 footage in Standard Definition. One of the reasons they hired me is because I have the DVX100b.

Now I have this new camera so I'd love to sell off my old DVX's, but don't want to lose the money from these shoots.

So the question is, is there a way to shoot with the HMC 150 edit everything and then in post downgrade the footage to 16:9 SD?

Thanks!

Everybody who wants to create a standard-DVD has to downgrade his HD-Footage so SD... so it wont be a problem... just downconvert in your NLE or some external encoder to your desired format

Widescreen DV if you're handing off the footage via a hard drive would make the most sense.

Now here comes a tricky question... what is your NLE? Some do it better than others.

Hi Mike,

I'm editing on FCP7 and would be outputting the files and sending via DVD to the client.

Thanks for the help!

When you say sending via DVD to the client, is this a finished DVD or files that they will then edit?

-- Finished DVD --
Export to a Quicktime file in HD then run the HD file through compressor for wide screen DVD, then author using DVD Studio Pro.

-- Files to be edited --
Same as above, but use compressor or other converter program to transcode to their preferred codec. Ask them what codec they prefer because this may influence what converter you use.

although i use Edius 5.5 whenever i shot anything in 1080 25p or 720 25p, after i downrezzed it in the editor and burnt to sd dvd the footage looked amazing.

If anything you might have to soften it up as all my footage came out razor sharp :)
