He starts with talking about working on 2001: A Space Odyssey in 1968 then it gets very interesting after that.
Academy award winner Douglas Trumbull has announced his forward-looking ten-minute demonstration movie UFOTOG, which has been produced at TRUMBULL STUDIOS. The experimental sci-fi adventure showcases the 4K 3D at 120 fps process MAGI.

Well THAT WAS AWESOME.

Almost an hour and a half from one of the most brilliant men in special effects that there has ever been.

Amazing.

It's grTifying that Trumbull recognizes that the Peter Jackson 48fps looks awful, because it does. Hopefully he is on the right track and the 120fps projected at 120fps looks cinematic as he describes it and not like the horrible hobbit 48fps video look. I went to see the force awakens and did not even consider the 3D option because current 3D hurts my eyes and doesn't add to the movie for me.

OK, this is interesting, but it made me think about something even more interesting (to me):

Imagine you had a camera capable of recording 6K 240 fps with 20 stops of DR. Imagine you had the best glass you can think of. Imagine you had all the supporting gear, the audio gear, etc. What would you do with it? It's a harder question than it looks like at first sight, and it also comes with a nasty sidekick: what's keeping you from doing it now?

i can't remember the exact figures but I believe camera equipment is less than 5% of a typical film budget. Feeding the talent and crew probably costs more than camera rentals .

without the other 95% of the budget all that camera is good for is taking video of your cat.

It's seldom talked about on this forum, but I feel rather down in the dumps when I consider that even if a 35mm film camera and film were free, it's unlikely that me and my friends could make the likes of any of my favorite films, like Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, or Back to the Future.

They're also incapable of writing "Master and Margarita", "The Heart of Darkness" or "Tropic of Cancer". None of us is. And the word processing software is dirt cheap too.
