FS7: Doug Jensen's Sony PXW-FS7 Master Class

Unfortunately I need to provide an instruction video like this to my second shooter (who'll be using the FS7) and he doesn't have usable streaming internet access. Am I correct that this product can only be accessed by streaming?

Yes, at the moment that is the only option. But Vimeo is pretty robust around the world.

having seen only the first chapter but definitely going to buy the book when I get my FS7 - I have to thenak you for the excellent work.

I also fully understand the 6 month limit but would suggest you offer a renewal discount - additional 6 month for buyers at 50% off.
In addition you could offer an additional chapter about the changes after Firmware 2.0.

That would be a fair deal for me - just my 2 Cents

Hi Plini, thank you for the suggestions. I will certainly give some consideration to a renenewal discount if I can work it out with Vimeo. I am at the mercy of how their system works and I have already run into limitations of what is possible. Fortunately I've got about 5 months to work on it before it will become an issue for anyone.

As for Firmware 2.0 changes, I have already anticipated what the major changes would be, and I produced the video and wrote the book with those in mind. So I will have to evaluate the actual firmware when it is released to see if further information needs to be added or not. Only time will tell. Thanks.

Doug is the book the exact same info of the master class? Just want to make sure prior to purchasing the book. Thanks

No, it's not the exact same information because they are intended for different purposes. Like any field guide, the book is intended to convey the most important information as quickly and as concisely possible for quick reference. While the video is more like attending a 2-day workshop with an instructor who leads you through the nooks and crannies of the camera while providing detailed explanations and examples along the way. Although the book is condensed version of a lot of the same key information, it does it without as much explanation about why/when etc. Also the book is strictly about the camera and does not cover workflow or backing up files in post. The bottom line is that I would say there is about an 80% overlap of information between the two but the presentation of that information done differently. That's about the best answer I can give.

I haven't bought Doug's course, but I did end up with a copy of his PMW-EX3 field guide when I bought a used EX-3 kit. By the time I got it I already knew the camera quite well, but leafing through the book, it was indeed excellent.

The six month limitation on Doug's video may be frustrating, and it sounds like Vimeo gives him limited options to customize, but while there may not be a 50% renewal discount, I bet buying a six month subscription and the book would be a potent combination at essentially the same price point as the subscription plus proposed 50% renewal fee - and the book would stay with you permanently. Just a thought.
