Double checking PP/AE/PP workflow

I brought my MTS clips into PP. I created a link to AE and opened each clip in AE. I did color correction on all, there, and on one clip, fixed a blemish. After rendering a preview, all looks ok in PP. It is a 15min video.

I tried render the whole thing to a Vimeo output setting when I wen to bed. When I woke up, it had 1.5hrs to go (crazy). This is a new MBP with PP.

Is there a better way?

I typically render to a master in Animation codec and from there outputs to compressed ones for Vimeo / YouTube / email purposes. Guess going from AVCHD to h.264, ie: straight between two highly compressed mpeg4 codecs, can cause snags in the decode / encode engine.

Replacing clip in PP, taking the clip to AE to color and edit blemishes and not rendering in AE. The changes are live in PP and I am rendering from there.
