FS7: Don't buy catalyst prepare direct from sony, I was robbed there.

I bought Catalyst prepare at the sony website. And I feel robbed.

The suite (download, standard single license) ) is offered at 267,99 at BHphotovideo.com which is 238,53 euro. A few days earlier I paid 217,74 for only catalyst prepare (also download). To get the whole suite I must pay this amount again.

So if you want to buy Sony stuff don't buy it at Sony.

I also had to stop working with catalyst prepare, the library it makes is confusing when working with other software like Resolve. I now only use catalyst browse to copy the files from xqd cards. The sorting can be done in Resolve.

Not that sony is bad, but I found out that mixing workflows end up in chaos. And Resolve is more powerfull and less expensive than catalyst prepare and catalyst edit together. It can even more than I need. (And Resolve can handle a double monitor which catalyst edit can't).

I have observed the same thing.

I started using Catalyst Browse recently, and after looking through Catalyst Prepare for a while I suspected it "wasn't for me" because I thought it was going to make things confusing down the workflow line so I decided to leave it alone.

Seems others are seeing the same thing. Makes me feel like I wasn't just being timid.

Catalyst Browse is quite nice however.
