Don´t know what to read and where anymore

Hello!

As I read complaints about people just coming in to take the fruits of Vitalis and the testers efforts I kind of feel spoken to by that. I remember how excited I was when I read the "research volunteers"-thread for the first time (about 70 pages back then).

I said to myself that I´ll be on board in participating as soon as the "back to original"-hack would be implemented.

Now it is and I of course tried the C settings with success.

But now there´s a special board for the serious testers (I´m not, can´t be) and hundreds of pages combined to read from all the other threads. (don´t get me wrong, I read most of them...at least I think so)

Say I had only half an hour a day to spare. honestly it takes me that long just to get back to point where I stopped reading yesterday with no hard knowledge of what said who and who tested what already and what´s on the menu atm.

Maybe there could be one post, where whoever knows best asks for one specific test setup to shoot the famous star sheet with? Once the results are provided the post gets edited and a new setup will be requested for testing.

That way anyone could help out within a few minutes just by dropping by, quickly setting up a new firmware according to the request and shooting the stars out of it.

While I do dislike takers and non-givers I see no other way for me to participate (other than to donate, which I will do right now). And taking me as the average user I´d like to think that others might feel the same.

There's a confusing amount of hack related threads spread across at least 4 sub forums.
OK, it's fair to say this is all a not for profit effort and should be celebrated without any criticism.
I haven't changed my GH-1 yet, nor have I donated.
I will do both before September.
In the meantime I'm reading as many of the related threads as I can and trying to learn from them.
I think pretty much all the Vimeo and YouTube 'Hack13' examples that get posted also include set up details and some discussion about the set up afterwards.

The bottom line is that hacks developer has no interest whatsoever in any kind of organized info source, a website or faq or database of settings or anything like that. As a programmer myself I can understand why, all that stuff is for non-technical people who won't be much help for the kind of technical testing and feedback needed to move forward.

If you possess the kind of abstract thinking mind required for actually helping a project like this, the fact that all the nitty gritty details are from a choatic forum won't slow you down very much.

That's fair enough.

For most people just keeping an eye on the current release is probably enough. There's basic advice in the interface and that enables you to choose some starting point settings and tweak from there to suit your own card(s) and personal requirements. For most people there's probably not many settings they actually need to be concerned with. That done, I'm not sure there's really that much to be learned or said here now, unless you are a "real" tester.

Of course there's always that feeling that somehow you are missing out on something by not constantly checking back here...

....ahhh but doesn't filing through thread after thread- give you that sense that some great glimpse of the holy grail of settings is just around the corner?? I love it- I mean, I hear you, it has gotten a bit overwhelming, but it's true, there has to be something said about people not being able to just swoop in and get to the goal line without any effort put in. I mean a lot of people have been here from the start and shortly after even. I think there is something to be said for having to put a little work into something that is so grand - and FREE like Chrisso said. The endless searching will cause you to be educated o the subject....really understand the nuts and bolt of the hack(s)....

However, ther are some friendly stickies, (which are great btw), to help you get along at a faster pace...

to each his/her own, but I like the hunt....

I hear you. But I am not so much concerned with keeping up to date.

I was just thinking that there might be some slave workers tasks which a casual tester could do so the serious testers could concentrate on more important things. If there were any the situation with the many threads would be very un-practical due to time issues of the not-so-serious casual testers. But maybe I´m wrong and there´s simply no need for casual testers.
